This thermometer has been very accurate for the wide variety of uses to which I've subjected it so far. This includes not only meats (we're talking steak, hotdogs, salmon, chicken, any kind of meat) but leftovers I microwaved (curiosity) water for proofing yeast (I never followed that part of the recipe before) and even bathwater (again, curiosity.)
I gave this thermometer 4 stars instead of 5 because it is very sensitive. Or maybe it is afraid of the dark. You see, I keep it in a drawer. It really, *really* seems to like being used because every time I open that drawer something bumps against it and I hear the little chirp of my thermometer turning on.
Also, one time I heard a very quiet high-pitched sound and it was the thermometer which was on. I had trouble figuring it out at first, but the sound was so persistent that I finally figured it out. So now I am paranoid when I open the drawer and hear the chirp, that it will stay on and make that noise again.

I love this thermometer! The neatest part about it is that you can watch it go from rare to medium to well done. It is very accurate. I had a Maverick thermometer before and loved it, but my husband put it in the sink in dishwater. DO NOT PUT THIS THERMOMETER IN WATER! The thermometer I had before was a small one, but this is a nice size. You can check a single burger or a chicken breast on a George Foreman Grill, plus you can check a roast in the oven or a pork chop on the grill. In this day and age where meat needs to be done, what a wonderful cooking tool to have.

This thermometer is very large and easy to handle (32 cm / 1' 0-1/2" long) and its large display (both done-ness and actual temperature) is easy to read, making it ideal for oven, BBQ or stove-top use. It works perfectly for measuring the internal temperature of meats, breads and other non-liquid items as they cook.

The upper part of the thermometer is obviously not waterproof (which I did not need to be told) but the description does not point out the fact that the probe must not be used to measure the temperature of liquids. It cannot, therefore, be used for the many liquid temperature applications I had planned. This limitation should have been stated clearly in the description.

4 stars overall: 5 stars for the specific uses I have stated, 3 stars for "liquid incompatibility" and the five second wait time (for the display to register the temperature) which seems somewhat lengthy, given today's technology - no doubt because if the heft of the probe.

Much larger than picture led me to believe, a bit bulky. Tip is too large to be fast responding. Meat is consistently overcooked.

A good thermometer is an essential tool for cooking and baking breads. It is one of those tools you may not know how much you needed until you actually have one.

These work well, for the price. They aren't as 'instant' as you would think, but for the average home baker, or cook, an excellent entry level, day to day usage, thermometer.

My mom even put this in a sink full of dishwater for some reason, and I took it apart, and dried it out, and it kept working.

Recommended.

I got this instant-read thermometer primarily to check internal temp of artisinal breads, but it soon replaced my meat thermometer. It is so quick and, in side-by-side test with my trusty old dial thermometer, it was very accurate. My only issue with it is that it sometimes - not always - wants to read the room temperature for an extended time. That means that I have to remove the battery when storing it in order to save battery life. Minor inconvenience, but it would rate five stars otherwise.

This item seems to work just great, but I didn't expect it to be so HUGE. It's a least a foot long and takes up a lot of space in the drawer... just not quite sure why it needs to be so big... Works totally great though, would have rated it about a 3.5 just based on it's unexpected size (probably my own fault).

This thermometer is simple and quick. I bought it after I used my Mother's. I've had it for 5 years & it's still running strong. I've left it outside overnight and it has even been rained on and still works to this very day. The only thing that has gone wrong is that it stopped making noise when it got wet. But it still is able to do it's job!

What makes it so handy? I can simply stick whatever I'm cooking and know what temp it needs to be. Now I know, I could have a chart up in the fridge or look it up in my cook book, but this thing tells me and it's super easy. The fact that it has beef and poultry done-ness is awesome to as I always cook my chicken to the proper temp, which I think is 180.... Batteries last about a year for me. I would think they'd run out faster as I grill often both indoors and out but I rarely have to change it.

So I'm ordering another because I never see this thing in stores and would like a backup in case mine finally kicks the bucket.

Pros:
Simple. Press the button and stick the food.
Fast.
Tells you the done-nes.
Batteries last forever.

Cons:
Can't stick it in the dishwasher. (Haven't seen one that you can.)
Doesn't make noise after getting wet. (Not really a con but yeah.)

So, I fully recommend this product as I've had great luck with it.
