Then the temperature probe suddenly began reading 190 to 210 all the time.

The only reason I gave it 1 star was that it does turn on.

I have 3 digital thermometers that I use with my Green-egg smoker. All of them give a reading that 2 to 4 degrees difference, which is fine. I received a Maverick ET-72 as a gift and it is terrible. It is roughly 30 to 40 degrees off after it gets above 100 degrees. If I ate food based on this unit I would possibly be dead from food poisoning.
I know the unit is junk, because I have cut a piece of meat open after it said it was at medium to medium rare and it was a bloody mess. The only reason I gave it 1 star was that it does turn on.

This product takes the guesswork out of cooking meat to the right temperature. I use the thermometer mostly when I barbeque. I have cooked ribs, burgers, and steaks to perfection using this thermometer. I frequently have received compliments from guests that I have cooked for thanks to the RediCheck Remote Cooking Thermometer w/Taste Settings. I would recommend using this thermometer to anyone who wants to take the guesswork out of cooking food perfectly.

Worked as advertised for about 8 weeks. Then the temperature probe suddenly began reading 190 to 210 all the time. Likely just a bad probe, but how can one obtain just the probe? Not a chance. Have to purchase a whole new one. So I am on the lookout for a better quality product. Maybe something that will last a year...

I bought the Maverick Remote Thermometer in January and during the first use failed (high error code). There was a short in the probe. It appeared to be right at the base of the probe. The replacement was NO DIFFERENT. Failed during the first use. Same problem. I believe it may have to do with the poor packaging technique used which puts the probe wire into a bind right at the probe base. DO NOT BUY THIS PRODUCT. I will be searching for a different remote thermometer and can definitely tell you it won't be from Maverick. If I could give it 0 stars I would have.

I've had this thermometer for at least six years and have used it in my convection oven with pork, beef, turkey and chicken many times, I've had no problems with it giving me the wrong temp. I usually use the meat function on it where you pick the meat type and doneness setting. When I have thought that maybe the meat is taking too long or not long enough, I have double checked with a regular meat thermometer and have found it to be accurate.
Love it and would recommend it to novice cooks especially. What is most important is to make sure that the probe is properly placed, especially that it is not too near a bone.

Used it for about 8 months .Love it and would buy another and positively recommend it highly. Read the instructions, and make sure you do not immerse the probe in water when cleaning it. I'm cooking a brisket and watching the remote as I write this review.Had it in the bathroom 2 walls away. A earlier reviewer said it could not do this. I bought this same unit for my son-in-laws and best friend for last Christmas.
