1.0 out of 5 stars cute, that's all folks!
I got it to replace my Oster that broke down after 8 years of faithful service. This is cute but leaks water all over the counter and leaves eggs underdone for hardboiling.

I believe this is the best egg making machine ever invented. Every morning, instead of boiling eggs on the stove, waiting almost 30 minutes to an hour for hard boiled eggs, I stick the eggs into this egg maker and only wait a couple of minutes. My kids also love eating the eggs from this egg cooker because the egg cooker makes the eggs very tender, much better than stove top hard boiled eggs. It's also very easy for my kids to make the eggs. Henrietta also makes poached eggs as well as hard and soft boiled eggs. It's very easy, just add water and plug the chicken in to any wall outlet. After a couple of minutes, Henrietta makes delicious eggs for everyone. Whenthe eggs are done, Henrietta makes chirping sounds to alert then that the eggs are done. This way, I am sure that my kids are away from the stove, and are unable to burn themselves. I love this chicken because i don't forget about the eggs, and over cook them. I recommend this product to those who do not want to wait a long time for cooked eggs and those who love eggs.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Product, March 3, 2002

My husband recently ordered Henrietta as a gift for me. I used it for the first time with apprehention as other reviews that I had read were not great. I can say now that it works just fine. The chirping may sound more like a whistle but that doesn't matter-I'm glad that it lets me know when the eggs are done. We live in a town that's above 5,280 ft above sea-level and most things have to cook longer. I was afraid that the centers of the hard-boiled eggs would not be cooked all of the way-they were just fine. Henrietta replaces an Oster egg cooker that I've had for well over 20 years. She works better than the Oster ever did.

5.0 out of 5 stars Boiled eggs (but not poached), February 13, 2001
This review is from: Maverick SEC-2 Henrietta Hen Egg Cooker, White (Kitchen)
This is a very common appliance in Germany, where the traditional breakfast is a softboiled egg and a Kaiser roll with jam and butter, cheese or cold cuts. But it is a nuisance to correctly time eggs to get the right level of "done-ness." This appliance does it just right. As to poaching, none of these egg cookers really poaches an egg; to do that, you need a fry pan with some barely simmering water. Crack the (freshest possible) egg into a saucer and slip under the water. Lift out the cooked egg with a slotted spoon and drain. THAT'S a poached egg. Don't bother doing it any other way.

The principle of operation of an egg cooker is very simple; you put in a measured amount of water based on number of eggs and whether you want soft or hard boiled eggs, pierce the bottom of the eggs to release steam, cover and go. The thermostat in the base detects the temperature spike that happens when the water has boiled off. Presto, eggs are done. Then plunge them in cold water to cool (a good practice for hard boiled eggs as it eliminates the green rim around the yolk.(

While you can make perfectly good eggs on top of the stove in a pot, this is a very handy device if you like plain eggs for breakfast or to make hard boiled eggs for hiking, picnics or sandwiches.

5.0 out of 5 stars Henrietta does it again and again, August 22, 2002

I absolutely love her. She is the best egg cooker in the house. Please do not let the few negative reviews deter you from buying her. I hate to make poached eggs but with henrietta its a whiz. If you use her right and treat her right she will last forever. I have had mine for almost 10 years and she has never failed me. We use her at least once a week.

5.0 out of 5 stars Likeable Eggs, August 12, 2002

I just don't know why this cooker has only a three and one half star rating. We use it all the time. It was given to us as a gift and everyone who visits wants one. I have sent many as gifts and now find that it is OUT OF STOCK. How can that be? Is it because people think it is a GADGET? NOT SO! It is a very usable, healthy, and useful item.

PLEASE locate more! We need them for gifts.

5.0 out of 5 stars Works Great and Enjoys a Place on the Counter, December 10, 2006
There's nothing worse than having to find space for, and then digging out a small appliance every time you want to use it. Henrietta looks terrific sitting on the countertop, and because she's on the countertop, you will use her. She works great. Will hold seven large eggs just fine for hard or soft boiling. I tried jumbos and she will only hold 4 jumbos at a time as they are fatter eggs, but seven large eggs at a time is fine with me. She poaches four eggs perfectly, and here, you can use jumbos if you like. The water reservoir is clearly marked and once you use her, if you find that your eggs are not quite done enough or too done, adding more or less water the next time will take care of that. Actually, the first time I poached jumbos, I found that the eggs were still a bit too liquid for my taste; I added a bit more water to the cooker, plugged her back in, and the eggs were perfectly done in about another minute. When the water evaporates, she chirps loud enough for even someone who is hard of hearing (as I am). I love this cooker. First one I have ever owned. And because she looks cute sitting on the counter, I don't forget I have her; therefore, she gets used alot.

5.0 out of 5 stars Henrietta is the Best, March 12, 2008
I bought this egg cooker 10 years ago on a whim. The whole family loved it. Eggs were always perfect, depending on how much water was added. She clucked when the eggs were done, it was hilarious.
I actually forgot how to boil eggs on the stove. It was easy to get perfect eggs every time and never any cracked ones. We definetely recommend Henrietta to everyone. Well worth the money!!!

1.0 out of 5 stars Trouble with poached eggs, January 21, 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: Maverick SEC-2 Henrietta Hen Egg Cooker, White (Kitchen)
I bought this egg poacher for a gift to my parents. The lid does not fit well, leaks out water during poaching process; they have to place a plate under the unit to catch the water. They called Maverick to ask what to do about it; the receptionist was rude and put them on hold. I will ask them if they want to return the unit.

3.0 out of 5 stars Cute, but!, January 3, 2001
A Kid's Review
This review is from: Maverick SEC-2 Henrietta Hen Egg Cooker, White (Kitchen)
I agree 100% with the other reviewer from CA. I gave her 3 stars for being so cute. If you buy her for poached eggs she's very disappointing. The eggs are too done on top and to runny on the bottom.
