I purchased this spatter screen because I liked the idea of not using plastic wrap or paper towels on food heating in the microwave. We have used our screen on a daily basis for seven months and it still looks brand new! The microwave screen has several great advantages already mentioned in previous reviews, but the advantage I appreciate most is that my microwave has a reheat function that seems to measures the steam/heat from the food to determine length of the reheat cycle. With this open mesh screen, I have had less overcooked, tough food incidents as well as no spatter! I am purchasing more spatter screens as stocking stuffers for family members this year.

5.0 out of 5 stars Must have for your microwave., October 6, 2006

I don't know what I would do if I didn't use thses. My microwave always stays clean and all you need to do it hook it on the side of your microwave or fridge with a magnet hook. When you are done using it, just rinse it real quick and hang it back up to dry. Simple and effective.

Believe me, next time a soup blows up in your microwave, you will be wishing you had this!

I've had one of these for a couple of years, and I LOVE IT! My microwave is always clean, I don't have to waste plastic wrap, it keeps the food moist, but allows steam to escape, it's easy to clean... It's perfect!

3.0 out of 5 stars Flimsier than I imagined, sags in the middle., June 16, 2011

This review is from: Microwave Splatter Screen
I use microwave for a lot of cooking with tomato-based and curry-based sauces. A few years back I picked up a hard plastic platter cover screen at Trader Joe's that I have been quite pleased with. However through the years it became some what discolored from curry splatter and when I saw this splatter screen I decided to try it.

I am attaching several photos to accompany my review. Photo #1, which shows my hand under the splatter screen, illustrates what the screen looks like. It looks and feels similar to a piece of sheer window curtain. The edges are not finished in any way and have a ragged look as if someone cut it with scissors (i.e. it is not a smooth edge when you cut it with a circular cutting edge machine). A red bead is glued to the material every few inches along the edge. These beads meant to keep the edges down when the material is draped around a dish in the microwave, but they are too light to do this job well. If you have a large dish the material sags in the middle and touches the food.

What I liked:

1) It does prevent splatter
2) It was relatively inexpensive
3) I was able to wash it with dish washing solution like I would a rag, and the splatter was removed. Curry stains were not, but I don't hold that against the material.

What I did not like:

1) It sags in the middle and touches food
2) Relatively small in diameter, not enough to cover some of my cooking containers (see Photo #2, where the splatter is over a small hummus container for relative size)
3) After I washed it, I had hard time finding a place for it to dry. My hard plastic screen just stands in the dish drying rack, but it was hard to find a place for this large sheer piece of material that was not in the way.
4) It looks rather unattractive, very home-made

Bottom line: It is okay for small containers where the screen has a lot of overlap so it does not sag in the middle, but for my needs it is not good enough. I would not buy it again.

5.0 out of 5 stars Use it everday, January 14, 2007
I have to admit, when I received the box...I thought it was a joke. It seems like a cheap piece of useless mesh with plastic dots at each corner. I have to say, it works great for bowls where the food is below the lip of the bowl. Washes easily and definately prevents splatters. I think I got more than I paid for. Would recommend.

4.0 out of 5 stars works better than it looks!, July 30, 2008

This is a good product that works really well and especially cleans up easily and dries VERY fast.
Here are the pros and cons in my opinion:

PROS: lightweight...really fast & easy to clean...very fast drying...fits every kind of bowl or plate...non reactive to food and food safe.

CONS: looks "cheap & flimsy" (but looks are deceiving, works very well)...
occasionally, if bowl is wide across, the cloth will "sink in" a little and touch the food (the red dot tabs on the sides need to be a little heavier).

CONCLUSION: The only con I can see is that the red tabs around the edge could be a little heavier, but other than that, it works surprisingly well. There is not a day that goes by where I haven't used it. I am even planning on buying one or two more for family members.

I found my first splatter screen at the grocery store.... I've used it for 3 years and my friends and family had taken note of how effective and easy it was to use.... besides... saving money on papertowels!
It's very easy to clean!
I bought 5 of them for stocking stuffers this year and everyone loves it!

This microwave screen guard is everything it was advertised to be. Not only does it keep the microwave mess-free, it is also very easy to clean. Just rinse it out and it dries in a matter of minutes. I was so happy with this product that I have ordered more to give to friends and family.

I just received this item as an early stocking stuffer. I can't believe I haven't seen this in all the local stores. I've used it once and already know that it works great. It's time to throw out all the bulky plastic lids I've used to keep my microwave clean. I've not only saved space in my cabinet, but also don't have to use half the bottom rack of the dishwasher to clean this screen. Get it for all your friends and family this holiday season!
