Function is great, rubber probe connection broke twice for me.,

I really like the functionality of the thermometer. Easy to program. Much better than some of the other thermometers that I have had, BUT the "cord / wire " breaks too easily. I have now bought two of these thermometers, I am extremely careful with the probe and especially careful not to put any pressure or bending at the wired end of the probe but both have fractured at this site.
I have other thermometers that I do not like as well functionally and they have a wired mess over the cord or a protective cover at the site where the probe ends and the wire begins. These have lasted forever. AND you cannot use a probe from a different thermometer. They are not interchangeable. I would give this a 10 star if they coukld fix their probe/wire connection problem.

Works reasonably well,

I've used this for about a year, both in the oven and BBQ. The alert voice is fun and reasonably loud. I can't hear it outside if I'm inside, but indoors it can be easily heard. There's a nice option to change from "alert voice" to "alert beep" if you get tired of "10 MINUTES UNTIL READY".
There are a couple of problems with it: First, if you use it in a BBQ, the probe is easily damaged if it is exposed to direct flames. Be careful to place the cord from the probe over a part of the grill that will not flare up. Replacement probes are available from Maverick (you can get 2 for $20 with shipping). Next, the probe design allows ambient heat to affect the temperature reading. If too much of the probe is exposed outside of the food, the surrounding air will raise the reported temperature by 10-20 degrees. Insert the probe as deep as possible. Back when I bought this, the probe had a faulty design. The point where the probe attaches to the cord was weak. Maverick has since changed the design to a more robust attachment. So far, none of my probes have broken at that point, although I have toasted 3 of them due to direct flame. Overall, I like it and use it several times a week.

Comes out perfect every time,
This review is from: Maverick Voice Alert Anticipation Digital Thermometer (Kitchen)
All I'll say is this product for this price is awesome. Every time whether I've cooked poultry, beef, pork - it comes out perfect. The voice alerts indicating when to baste, turn, done, etc. are awesome. Every time the meat came out juicy. Poultry and beef doesn't allow anything but well done but beef and veal allows rare, medium and well done settings. I've used in outdoor grill and indoor oven, all works. There are 2 probes given 1 which is insulated and 1 which is silicon. Battery life's pretty good too. I've used this about 40 times the probes did not break.

This talking digital thermometer is so much fun to use. If you are not interested in hearing "It's time to baste", or "your food will be ready in..." or several other audio responses throughout the cooking time, you can turn off the voice mode. The unit itself shows you the internal temperature of the meat you are cooking, and anticipates how long it will take to cook. For issues of safety cooking pork and poultry, it always selects well done for you. For beef, you decide how you want to cook it depending on your tastes. My daughter-in-law was the first to use it in her oven, my son uses it when he is grilling and my newest DIL received one as a gift this Christmas from me.
The probe goes into the meat, and the cord from the probe to the unit stays partly in the oven after the oven door is closed. I thought it would melt, but it was just fine. However, my son does not close the grill cover on it. He just uses it to poke the meat and check the temperature. The only thing I would recommend is that when your food is "done", move the probe to another spot to recheck the temperature. In the beginning, you have to learn where to place the probe to get the best temp reading. Also I do not like the "stand" it has, so I just place it flat on the countertop next to the stove.

Works well, but accurate???,

Bought this on clearance at a local store. I have another(different brand/model)that I used to compare when cooking turkey, chicken etc. While the features appear to work as advertised I think the temperature reading on this one is slightly off(at least on mine)by about 5 degrees(higher or lower depending on desired temp). I also verified the temps with another(instant read type)thermometer, and it appears to prove the discrepancy. The temp reading appears to lag, which of course could lead to slightly over-cooking your food. Have done the dual-probe test a few times, always with the same temp differential. Could just be this particular unit/probe, but thought I'd mention it anyway. Also, to the reviewer who said this does not allow setting your own temp(only default meat/temp settings). I have the ET-84 model and it does indeed allow you to program your own temperature settings. According to the manual...1. switch power on. 2. press MEAT(+) button until the dot stops beneath PGM(temp will display 158 degrees, or previous setting) 3. press and hold MEMORY button for 2 seconds(alert temp will flash) 4. press MEAT(+) or TASTE(-)to raise or lower Alert Temp 5. press MEMORY to lock in It will now alert you when it reaches your desired temperature.

We had a thermometer and lost it. It was wonderful. You could set it to the temp you w anted it to beep at. We got this one thinking the same thing. You can only use the programs on the thermometer. You can't set a temp. Other than that, it works like it should.
