Product Description

The Mavic Rush Shoe is very clearly related to its top of the line XC shoe, the Fury, but is separated by a couple hundred bucks, and a bit more focus on long-haul comfort. In place of the ultra-stiff unidirectional carbon fiber sole of the fury, you'll find a glass fiber sole on the Rush. That's not to say that this is a flexy shoe, though, quite the opposite. It's stiff enough that you won't feel like you've been standing on metal tubes all day, but compliant enough that your feet get to move a little more naturally, which reduces muscle fatigue. The Rush closes with a ratcheting buckle and two Velcro straps, in place of the more-complex but lighter system found on the Fury. It's compatible with toe spikes, and the insole's been treated with an antibacterial finish to keep the shoes smelling a little fresher.

I owned the previous model, the Razor shoes, for 3 years and 9 months….they basically fell apart in that time period, starting with the left shoe's sole which cracked across, causing the cleat to drop out. The right shoe about a year later developed gaping holes in the toe and heel…but they were still usable…..mostly I think the faults stemmed from my using them as general walking shoes, i.e. wearing out the soles, a purpose that they weren't really designed for lol. Let's not forget though that mountain bike specific shoes should have a trail-ready sole. so, on with the show:

The Rush shoe is very similar indeed to the previous Razor. differences I noticed:

while there doesn't appear to be as much ventilation mesh in the Rush, the outer of the shoe has tiny vent holes where none existed in the previous model. without much mileage on these I can't say if the ventilation is any different to the Razor.

there's a tab on the upper velcro strap, which secures the tongue. so once the velcro strap is closed, the tongue cannot move laterally as you ride. this was definitely a problem with the Razor. Fixed!

the top of the tongue now has a kind of stiffened collar, in a material that looks a little like neoprene. this wraps nicely around your forefoot(?) and feels quite comfy.

the Mavic logos appear four times on each shoe, and seem to be larger than those on the Razor. meh

the Rush has a substantial looking toecap which hopefully will fix that issue with the toe of the shoe wearing thru…Fixed!

the locking ratchet mechanism on the outer side of each shoe now appears to be made of plastic. in the Razor the cage was metal with a plastic release lever. I am not certain that this latest all plastic model is an improvement.

Nice fit, can be tightened down really good. A fairly stiff sole with a little flex, mostly at the ball of the feet, toe area. Good tread with slightly softer rubber than I expected. I had a size 45 in my old shoe and these 45 1/3 fit fine.

The Mavic 2012 Rush Men's mountain bike shoe is everything that was advertised. I'm an avid cyclist with five decades of experience. This shoe is a lightweight, comfortable, stylish cycling shoe you can walk in. After several rides of varying lengths, I find the shoe to perform well. I especially like the ratchet tightening system with the quick release. It's a shoe I can wear all day should I choose to. I chose the white color for riding on those hot sunny days. I'd buy the shoe again.

Fits great and it's pretty easy to walk in. I wouldn't use it on a hike, but it's better than most clipless shoes for short sections when you have to get off the bike. Ratchet is pretty good, but sometimes takes a few pulls to release when you want to take them off.

Used them for over an Year now, training, raceing ( XCO XCE XCM ), trails, city.
Very lightweight , great for pushbike on mud/dry , comfortable on tarmac/walking , durable enough on tarmac and strong sole on sharp rocks, very comfortable shoe even after a muddy trail and all wet .
First 200-300 km the shoe will be very tight then it will loosen a bit like 0.2 in eur size , just enough to adjust the ratchet in perfect position.
The carbon sole has a 10.000 km limit of hard riding , managed to crack the carbon sole of the left shoe but i can still use them.
Would not recommend this shoe for races over 2 hours they can get very painfull on rockgardens and bumpy terrain , best suited for XCE and XCO , the 2nd Strap can be very tricky to use and close in the right position. The front protection of the shoe isn't really there becouse you feel the rocks hitting your toes ( which is painfull ) but this happens only on rockgardens at low speeds <20km/h

Awesome shoe overall , value/quality 4 stars , also great performance on trail riding.

Tips: Use Cleats with Bike Shoe Shields

These shoes fit just perfect, they are made of good quality materials, They are comfortable for long rides. I wish they were a little bit lighter, that is the only reason for 4 starts instead of 5

I bought the nearly identical Mavic Razor shoe three years ago; it performed flawlessly. Have recently replaced my worn Razors with this year's Rush.

Amazing shoes: Comfortable, secure, adjustable, sturdy, surprisingly lightweight, attractive. It's a great choice for recreational riders who like to dismount and walk. Also, while maybe a little more flexible than others (at least according to some), the Rush's sole transfers power to the pedals efficiently.

I've raced, ridden with clubs, and commuted ~20-30 miles/day for more than 20 years. During that time I've also owned Sidi, Specialized, Vittoria, and Diadora cycling shoes. All of these brands' shoes have had their strong points. But after riding more than 15K miles on the Mavic Razor/Rush, I can say without qualification that it is by far my favorite cycling shoe ever. One additional note: The sole is drilled for 2-bolt cleats, so the Rush isn't for Look/SPD-R riders. However, I've found SPD mountain pedals more to my liking, so this is a non-factor...
