I'd like to give this jacket a not-quite-perfect score since I did have the front zip undo itself from the bottom on a recent ride, but that could have been user error--we'll see.
I've tried too many cycling jackets over the years but this is the first one to get close to perfect for cold weather riding down to freezing plus or minus a few degrees F.
Looks: The bright red color has yellow accents that together with the black makes it look more like a Ferrari-branded product than the usual yellow and black of Mavic. It is beautifully made and looks good.
Sizing: Use the chest & waist numeric sizing rather than relying on letters. This jacket's labeled primarily for "European" sizing where my jacket is labeled XXL for Europe, but XL for the U.S. in smaller letters. So depending on which one a seller uses, you could easily be getting it wrong +/- a size. Use the numbers (or ask the seller whether they list by the Euro or U.S. sizing).
The waist is maybe a little larger/looser than I'd like, but consistent with the Mavic sizing chart ([...] Even without an elastic effect, it stays in place relatively well, maybe due to the fabric itself as well as the silicone gripper around the waist.
Function: The forearm zips are ingenious and perfect for cyclists to control body temp when combined with the thinner mesh panels in strategic areas. The mesh panels do leave you feeling a bit colder than you might want at the beginning of a ride vs an solid jacket would, but that goes away after a couple of miles of active riding (coasters should look elsewhere to stay warm :-). I was initially thinking this jacket would be better if it had pit zips, but the mesh panels do a fine job when it's not bone-chilling cold.Read more ›
