Product Description

Product Description

If you haven't yet discovered the joys of smoking foods at home, this stove top smoker may be both a fun and worthy investment. Made of heavy-gauge stainless steel, the Max Burton Stove Top Smoker is a simple device that fits right over your gas or electric burner and allows you to smoke fish, meats, cheese, and vegetables to tender, juicy, flavorful perfection. Simply place a small pile of ground wood chips at the bottom of the smoker, cover them with the drip tray, set the rack on top of the tray, and pile the food onto the rack. Then slide the lid over the top to seal the cooker, place it on the stove, and you're ready to fire up. (With most stoves, you'll need two burners.) There's no fuss involved and no more smoke than if you were pan frying. The rack and drip pan are both non-stick coated and very easy to clean, by hand or in the dishwasher. The device comes with a small sampling of recipes to get you started.

2.0 out of 5 stars A nice little indoor smoker as long as you use it outdoors., April 15, 2007
This review is from: Max Burton Stove Top Smoker (Sports)
I bought my Max Burton unit about a month or so ago at Ramsey Sporting Goods. The first time I used it to cook chicken breasts, my kitchen smelled like the smokehouse on my grandma's farm and produced a haze in the kitchen. Despite opening windows, running the fans, it took a while to clear out. The smell lingered for the next 3 or 4 days.

Even though the sliding lid was shut all the way, I thought that perhaps there was not a very good seal. Therefore, the next time I used it, I sealed it with heavy-duty aluminum. The problem with the fumes returned, as there was the smallest of openings in the foil. I tried a modification of the idea last night, and the house stinks.

Keep in mind, the wood measured did not amount to more than 1 and 2 tablespoons and 1/4 cup of water at medium heat as specified in the instructions.

Based on my experiences, I do not recommend this for indoor applications. The unit construction I think is on the sturdier side and so earns 2 stars. The most important feature though-that of using it inside-bears no stars.

5.0 out of 5 stars Smokin' Stovetop Smoker!, August 30, 2009
This review is from: Max Burton Stove Top Smoker (Sports)
As a traditional smoker enthusiast, I was reluctant to smoke indoors on the stove, but during inclement weather there is no alternative if you don't want to change the menu at the last minute. This smoker performed fabulously! I have used it over and over with excellent results. It can also be used for poaching large fish, etc.

The one thing I would caution about it's use is that you need to keep a close eye on it. It works much faster than traditional outdoor smokers.

This was a great item! I have smoked numerous meats and fish and love the flavor. In fact I just smoked chicken tonight with apple wood. I would suggest this to anyone who likes that smokey flavor. The product itself does not leave any smokey residue but the aroma of the wood whisps though the house. We love it in fact we bought two! I recommend this product to everyone. Thanks!
