I bought one of these to be able to keep side dishes warm (beans, gravy, BBQ Sauce, etc.) when I barbeque. It does that very well. Then we had a big windstorm -- power out for four days. Thanks to the Max Burton burner, I could heat water for coffee and tea, heat canned soup and stews, boil water for washing dishes, cook oatmeal and scrambled eggs.

The key thing with this unit is that you can cook safely indoors. Camp stoves, gas grills, and other devices are DANGEROUS TO USE INSIDE THE HOUSE. DON'T DO IT!! The Max Burton burner is save to use in your kitchen, and makes a HUGE difference between freezing in the dark, and having hot food and coffee to help you weather the storm. (While you are at it, get yourself a Melita or french press coffee pot.)

The Max Burton butane stove is something every Responsible Citizen should have. Go buy one NOW, before the next disaster hits!

First off, I must admit I didn't purchase this on Amazon. I've had the burner for several years and bought it at a large truckstop in Virginia.

I've taken it camping several times, used it outside in addition to my propane grill, and have used it several times inside (no combustibles nearby, kept the flame lit at all times, paid attention to the flame, and had good air circulation...not dead yet). I love it, and am using in it our little off-grid cabin to make skillet meals and heat water for hot chocolate and tea.

Now, for the fuel canisters...it has been my experience that you really, REALLY want to use the Burton fuel canisters. I've picked up several off brand cans from the local Asian market to use, and even though they fit and worked, they had problems. Mainly, they sputtered all the time and I had to watch the flame closely since they would either flare up badly or go out altogether. I never have that problem when I'm able to find the Burton butane cartridges.

As with any combustible, good judgment and caution is necessary. That being said, I like my burner and will continue to use it as long as possible.

Since I'm in a review writing mood right now, I am doing one on this product as well. I got one of these stoves because a friend of mine uses one and sometimes two in her cooking demo classes. When I started to give cooking demo's now and then, too, I got one of these great little stoves. It's easy to transport, operate and seems quite dependable--has been for me now for a year, and seems to always have been for my friend as I've witnessed her using them in her classes for the past 5-6 yrs. I've only thought of using this item in the way I've described, but after reading the other reviews, now I've know of more ways it can be of service. It's really handy for my purpose and having it for emergency power outages seems great, also. Thanks to that reviewer! In regards to the other reviewers, I've never had problems having sticky black films on my pans after use. Don't know what that's all about. And I also would recommend the manufacturer let potential purchasers know what the fuel is that is needed and where to get it. I guess I can see why it wouldn't be safe to ship with the product itself with its contents under pressure. But I get my fuel cans at the local hardware store and they're only 2.99 ea. Easy peasy!

Max Burton table top is GREAT. Cook out doors perfect for fish if you do not want to smell up the house. Place on any sturdy table. Fuel is easy to find at any Big 5 store, or camping store.

This is a clean, very light-weight burner. It is very easy to load and unload the butane cannisters, and the automatic lighter works reliably and easily. My only quibble would be that it's difficult to turn the flame quite as low as might be desirable.

I bought this for my temporary kitchen while remodeling. It is working great, but leaving a sticky black film all over the bottom of my (all-clad) pots that is impossible to remove and rubs off on other stuff. . . so just be aware of this.

We bought this table top burner a few years ago, with the lofty intention of doing some table-top cooking such as fondues and perhaps a banana foster. We never did use it for that purpose (but we will at some point, I'm sure). However, my husband just had reason to pull out the table top burner when he needed a burner suitable for outdoor use, in which he'd be boiling water for 1-2 hours at a time (it's a steam setup for wood bending, if you must know).

The burner does exactly what it claims, and from a functional point of view it's a 4 star item. It works with the ease of the burner on your regular stove.

But the problem is the fuel. UPS will no longer ship butane, so ordering it online means it comes by the "slow boat." When we realized we were getting low on fuel I looked online to see if my local kitchen supply carried butane; the only cartridges available are the small ones for "creme brulee" torches. I went to the local REI, assuming that they would carry such things for all the camping equipment. Nope. I like the stove, but I hate to think of having to run all over town for resupply. (Yes, Amazon does sell the refills through a third party, but that won't help me *tonight*.)

Our end result was to buy a new Coleman camp stove using propane (which can use a small container or connect to the big propane tank on our BBQ). And while it's not really fair to compare an attractive table top burner with a two-burner stove intended to be used for car camping... my husband was surprised to discover that the Coleman put out a lot more heat than the Max Burton stove.

I don't think I'll pull out the Coleman for the banana foster (though I would if we were doing this on the back patio). But if your needs are non-standard, you might consider it as an alternative.
