Has strong and durable build quality with fantastic grips and keys.

The purpose of the O-ring is to dampen the switch when it bottoms out so it gives it a different feel and is a quieter keyboard.

I used this to decide on the type of switch I wanted to look for in a mechanical keyboard and it was totally worth the purchase.

I wanted a mechanical keyboard badly but the hardest decision when getting your first one is deciding which switch type to get! When I stumbled upon this device I bought it immediately. If you are like me and don't have any local stores that carry mechanical keyboards to try, this device is seriously worth a look. Consider these pros and cons:

PRO:
-Great way to try all the popular switches for the first time
-Well built, this thing is quality
-Not just a bare switch with sharp prongs and non-mounted like some sellers sell
-Comes with see through keycaps so you know which switch you are trying
-Comes with O-Rings!!!! Very valuable to see what an O-ring modded keyboard would feel like

CON:
-Kinda expensive for a sample tester (if it was 5$ instead of 10$ it would be perfect)
-Switches on an actual keyboard with plate-mounted switches (most mechanical keyboards) will feel different, but this device gives you a great feel for the difference between MX switches
-Hard to get an over all feel of the switch with only 1 button to press, but this is only a sample after all

This should be a no brainer buy if you have never felt an MX Cherry switch and are stuck on which type to get. Also very valuable since it includes O-rings to try out. Could save you a lot of money by preventing you from getting a switch type that you end up not liking.
HIGHLY RECOMMENDED

NOTE: If you don't know what the O-rings are for, you take the keycap off (just pull it off with some force) and slide it over the stem on the underside of the keycap. Then put the keycap back on the switch and press all the way down firmly to seat the O-ring. The purpose of the O-ring is to dampen the switch when it bottoms out so it gives it a different feel and is a quieter keyboard. Some swear by it, some don't like it. Very useful that they are included so you can try yourself.

Ok, after using this kit, I found out that (to my surprise) I will want an MX Blue with o-rings (I was biased toward browns before this).

The reason: I barely feel the brown's feedback, I don't really believe I'll feel it while typing real fast... maybe I am wrong, maybe after some conscious training time I could get myself to feel the browns.

I know the blues will be a bit louder than I'd like, so, I added the o-ring, and found its sound level to be similar to that of a brown without the o-ring (the blue being just a bit louder).

As a lot of other people already stated, it is not the same to test with a single switch, and you will likely feel different when you have the complete keyboard.

TBH, I am still a bit uncertain between Brown and Blue.... the fact that the blue feels a bit more firm than the brown was the decisive point: it is less likely that I'll hit a second key by mistake, and if I do, I will "hear" that I did (the two "click" sounds).

When my complete keyboard arrives, I'll update my experience about "how useful" was this sampler in my final selection.

UPDATE (20140423): I just got my complete keyboard (been using it for a couple of hours now), and I can say this sampler indeed helped me choose the right keyboard. Before using the sampler, I thought the blues would be too loud for me (and was biased toward browns): they are not, I am enjoying my keyboard with MX-blue switches. I'll update at a later point if I get annoyed by the keyboard, but I don't think so.

As an additional note, the *actual* keyboard is noticeable louder than the sampler, this is mainly because the sampler's board is smaller, but this was expected (bear this in mind). I am really liking the sound and feel of the keyboard.

I got one of these ahead of my max keyboard. WARNING: I read that if you buy it direct from max keyboard (instead of through Amazon) you get 15% off your max keyboard order. I was lucky and wanted blue switches so I could order my board from Amazon as well - but if you want your board customized (as only max keyboard can do) you'll need to order from them and you'll be better off ordering this product from their website as a result.

I bought this because I had a sample of a Cherry brown switch but wanted to compare it to the other 3 main variants of switch before I dropped a lot of money on a mechanical keyboard. This is a great product for that in theory- it has (well, supposed to have, see below) the 4 main variants for you to try, with keycaps and mounted on a board with a non-slip bottom so you can compare each type. It even has rubber o-ring standoffs so you can also see whether you should get those for the whole keyboard or not. And best of all, since the Cherry switches are used in all sorts of keyboards, you can use this as a general test for any keyboard manufacturer that uses them, not just Max Keyboard.

BUT.

When mine arrived, I found to my irritation that my kit, instead of coming with one key of each color, came with a black, red, and 2 blue switches but no brown switch. It didn't matter in my particular case because I already had a brown switch laying around and was mostly interested in the other options, but if I hadn't had one it would have been a pretty useless item (especially since I decided that I preferred the browns).

Now, this was just a simple mistake on the manufacturer's part, and I'm sure that had I complained I would have been able to get it sorted out and gotten a replacement. I didn't bother because I had all 4 types by that point and was able to come to a conclusion, as I said. However, it shows that there's some sort of a quality control issue if they are sending one out with a very obvious mistake that basically ruins the whole point of this kit. It's hard to compare when they don't include all the switch styles.

I'm torn about the score I should give this. I think I'll give it a 3, with the understanding that if everything is complete and as described, it's a 5-star product, but what I got would basically be useless. If you order it, make sure you check to make sure that you got all 4 types.
