Great soundtrack overall!!! Elise
It's very moody at times and goes very well with the more melancholy moments in the game. Terrence Aybar  |  1 reviewer made a similar statement

I've been all about Max Payne 3 since its release and one of the first things you notice about the game is the music by American noise band, HEALTH. They've done a stand out job with this soundtrack and it fits the onscreen action and cinematics like a glove. There's a nice Brazilian flavor to a lot of the tracks due to the primary Brazil setting of the game but there are other tracks on here which are just primal sounding drums that pound away like a racing heartbeat, perfect for a game that is as adrenaline fueled as this one is. Near the end of the game, the song "Tears" plays and it's one of the standout tracks on the album, not to mention the game itself.

The best compliment I can give this work is that it sounds like something you'd hear in a Michael Mann film. It's very moody at times and goes very well with the more melancholy moments in the game. There's a track called "Pain" that's a perfect example of this. All in all, it's a nice mix of music perfect for the genre. Great stuff.

I'm really hoping to hear more of HEALTH's work in this capacity again. They should definitely score more games and films if given the opportunity. As always, Rockstar makes sure to procure top notch talent to provide the music in their games and getting HEALTH to do the soundtrack is simply another great move in a history of great moves.

5.0 out of 5 stars Brilliant Soundtrack (and Game) June 13, 2012
Format:MP3 Music
I absolutely loved Max Payne 3 from start to finish, and one of the primary reasons (aside from the incredible graphics) was the soundtrack by Health. Each track worked brilliantly in each scene and really matched the mood of what was happening within the story. I think one of my favorite combinations of music and scene involved Tears playing during a rather lengthy action sequence that takes place in the final chapter of the game. Given the context and the nature of the protagonist and the fact that the game was drawing to a close, I found it particularly haunting and evocative. It seemed to fit perfectly where it was.

5.0 out of 5 stars Simply put: Awesome July 12, 2012
Format:MP3 Music|Amazon Verified Purchase
The first commercial I saw for Max Payne 3 featured the song Tears by the band Health. I instantly became enamored with it and went on an obsessive quest to find it. I did, here on Amazon and I bought it immediately. The visuals coupled with the song convinced me to buy Max Payne 3 at the full $60 asking price, which is rare for me. I was not disappointed, but this is not a review of Max Payne 3. During my time playing, in moments of calm, I would hear the music and as a previous reviewer here said it fits the game like a glove.

Last night I finally bought the soundtrack before heading to bed. Downloaded it and turned it on as I was going to sleep and I liked what I had heard up to that point. Today I put the whole thing on my mp3 player that I bring with me to work (it's a desk job and I'm an artsy type so it's tolerated, yay me!) and listened to the whole thing beginning to finish. Then I listened again and again and again. All I did all day was listen to this soundtrack over and over again because it is that effing good. I rate it as being on par with The Man himself Trent Reznor and the work he did on the Quake soundtrack so long ago. Everything about it is just sick, and I don't even care the slightest that I bought the song Tears twice. Health can have my money, they've earned it in spades.

I'm no music buff so I can't break down the various stylistic aspects of what makes this soundtrack good, but it is. It just is.

5.0 out of 5 stars Hasn't Left My Car July 14, 2012

Another fantastic piece of music by HEALTH. I found out about these guys through the music video they have for "We Are Water" that Eric from TIM&ERIC AWESOME SHOW directed.

I was expecting 1 min 30 second songs before I saw the run times on the album & I was pleasantly surprised to find many songs that went longer than 2 minutes. This for me is basically a HEALTH E.P. through the eyes of MAX PAYNE, & maybe enough to bite into and call it a full length album w/ 1 minute songs sandwiched here & there.

I bought this album b/c I want to support a good band that just so happens to be one I already like, & not from the standpoint of a MAX PAYNE fan since MAX PAYNE 3 is the first one I've played. HEALTH did a splendifferous job of creating memorable songs that are as etched into your mind as the levels they appear in. Also, I wanted the Video Game Industry, RockStar Games specifically, to take notice when people like the idea of already established musicians (mainstream or underground) scoring video game music. I understand it's probably easier & cheaper said than done, but it worked so well for this album and game that I don't know why it's not done more often.

And for $7.99 how could I say no :)

Criticism:
If you are a fan of HEALTH's "GET COLOR" then you will hear some instrumental repetition in a couple of tracks like COMBAT DRUGS. However, it wasn't enough to say they basically cut & paste the last minute of WE ARE WATER and named it COMBAT DRUGS, and in every case the songs that had this hint of repetition made up for it by having the other 2 minutes sound completely new and different.

4.0 out of 5 stars Excellent
Dark, moody, painful, with a flavor of Latin. 1 star off for not including even the slightest reference to the classic Max Payne violin chords.
