I just love this game. I just love the way it interacts with you, specially on the streets of NY in the night under the snow. I just love that environment. Excellent!! Cheers to the developers !!

This game has one of the most artistically fascinating and creepy sequences in a game ever. I will not spoil it, but if you have not played it, get this one!

One of the BEST games out there. but WORST jewel case packaging I've ever had for a game. I was looking forward to a collectors edition package which at least looked new but what I got was utterly disappointing. The case is all cracked and the paper cover is all worn out, almost like it is a used CD. 2 stars for the case and 5 stars for the game.

"Max Payne" is a very good game. I recommend everyone play it. I believe even after almost 10 years, it's a fun shooter. Its best qualities remain, and its faults haven't become unbearable over the course of time.
However, Vista users and beyond must beware. For reasons I don't fully understand, "Max Payne" has some sound files issues. In short, when playing the game on Vista, the videogame doesn't have sound where it should. The story is told through graphic novel pages; there may be no audio for these scenes. The levels themselves usually have a music score of some kind; you will not have any music. Thankfully, the in-game action still retains the full sound, with the intense gunplay and voice-acting fully intact. Well, I encountered a glitch here and there, but I wasn't surprised considering the other problems. The worst problem with the sound problems is that the very last stage of the game has some serious quirks. The gunfire started to fade in and out, along with the bad guys' screams and taunts. It's a shame that after getting used to an incomplete experience, one final chunk is suddenly taken away in the end. Now, there are a few patches available for download that supposedly fix these sound problems (it has to do with the files being stored in one directory, when Vista installations and downloads store the "Max Payne" files somewhere else...I think). If you feel like going through the trouble of downloading patches, and re-archiving sound files, then "Max Payne" is worth a purchase for today's computers. However, if that's not your thing, then you better find a way to use PCs with XP or older systems. Or, the X-Box version is excellent, if you can find those. I researched these sound problems, and found that many also experience similar issues. However, most posts show that the patch downloads worked for them. So, I might've been unlucky because of my hardware, etc. One last thing I want to address is the pricing. If you don't want to pay for shipping or worry about seller packaging, Steam (a legal pay-for-download website) is selling both "Max Payne" and "Max Payne 2" for 10 bucks. The sequel had no problems whatsoever when I downloaded it onto my Vista PC.

I am not the biggest fan of shooter games. The only two games of this nature that have interested me are Rainbow Six and Max Payne. With that being said, I must say Rainbow Six is a way up there in the ranking and Max Payne is by no means number 2.
The rating for this game needs to be taken extremely seriously. Although they show Max Payne (player) being holed up in an impossible situation (thus what he does can probably be viewed as ethical), he is required to get out of a violent battle between mafia groups and politicians. A lot of drug and sex reference in the game. Obviously, not a game for kids in my opinion. The game is, however, one of the best shooter games out there. The graphics are excellent for its day and the game just could not have been made better. Difficulty is reasonable and rises as you unlock newer modes. The game is very much fun to play, the story is great and justice is served in the end, as is revealed at the beginning of Max Payne 2. This game will not work in Vista, or even Seven for that matter, because of issues with drivers for sound cards that Vista and Seven do not have. Unless you get those drivers first, don't even think of getting this game. The alternative is that you install a second operating system (Windows XP) in your computer (which is pretty easy). This game works perfectly with XP. This game is also not supported in 64-bit systems. So, watch out. This game is a must have for gaming enthusiasts who love first person shooter games.

Max Payne provides an action packed thrilling view of the world of down on his luck cop with nothing to lose. Max is as tough and gritty as pc game can get.

This game is a very decent shooter style game. It's fun to play. AI is not too bright but the game can be challenging. The story line is adequate for the game. I found the "Sam Spade" monologues sometimes overplayed. All in all I enjoyed the game.
