Such a great book!,

This book is really good, and super cute! It really puts pit bulls into a different light, and shows them for what they really are: sweet and loving pets. They are just unfortunate to be owned by a lot of bad people. But, the author shows that a lot of good people own pit bulls too, and how amazing they really are!

Good story, disappointing book,

This book was purchased as a gift for my young niece, whose parents are ardent pit bull lovers and supporters. The story in the book is an important one, and I appreciate the author donating some of the proceeds from the book to charity. But for $20, I expected a better quality book - hardcover at least. The artwork looks photocopied onto the page. Overall, the production is very amateur for the price. I'm sad to say I'm disappointed with my purchase.

Max, The Shelter Dog,

This story follows Max the Pit Bull on his epic journey through the animal shelter system.Told through the eyes of a dog, we are given the unique perspective of what the 6 - 8 million sheltered dogs experience firsthand.
This book is thoroughly enjoyable and informative. It dispels many of the myths that are associated with Pit Bulls and brings to light what loving animal they are. A must read for all ages, especially future dog owners. It is destined to become a classic.

Max, The Shelter Dog,

I enjoyed reading Max, The Shelter Dog. I especially like the fact that the author did not sugarcoat the treatment of the dog and their lives in the shelter. I found the book to be engaging and informative. I think this would be a great book to tell children what happens to dogs when they don't have homes and people to care for them.

MAX, THE SHELTER DOG IS A GOOD READ FOR CHILDREN,

MY DAUGHTER-IN-LAW IS VERY ACTIVE IN A PIT BULL RESCUE GROUP. THIS BOOK IS GREAT WHEN SHE TAKES A DOG TO CHILDREN'S SCHOOLS AND SHELTERS TO TALK ABOUT DOG SAFETY AND TO INTRODUCE KIDS TO THIS MUCH MISUNDERSTOOD DOG BREED. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS BOOK; IF CHILDREN HAVE NO EXPERIENCE WITH DOGS WHO HAVE BEEN SURRENDERED TO SHELTERS THIS IS A REAL EYE-OPENER.

Max, The Shelter Dog I bought 2 copies of this book for my grandchildren and they love it. We have read it together and I was able to answer questions about dogs in the animal shelter system. It gave my grandchildren an appreciation for stray animals and what they go through.

This is a great book because it disspells the myth that all pit bulls are vicious, fighting machines. I really enjoyed this story. However, as others have noted, it's not the most professional-looking book. If you're O.K. with that, then definitely purchase this book.Matilda Mae: The Dog Who Needed a Name

Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Max, The Shelter Dog (Paperback)
I found this book a TOTAL rip-off for the price. Fortunately, I bought a "used" copy for slightly less but I expected a BOOK, not a 20 page children's story that was juvenile and infantile. A 3rd grader could have written this book. Had it been priced at 19 cents, then it would have been OK. There was a glaring mis-spelling on the first page which I thought was inexcusable for a writer/editor/publisher. Any editing would have caught it.
