For parents who want their child to understand animals,

I love the way this books ties in dog's emotions into the way dogs communicate. I was so excited reaing about this book that I had it shipped from the USA to Australia where I live. And I was not disappointed in the slightest! It teaches empathy and kindness, and it enhances and enriches a child's attachment to dogs. A must have!

While not a story with a plot per se, the book does a great job of depicting the relationship between the boy and his dog Max. I especially like the focus on the emotional connection between them when the boy is sad or lonely. It would be a great gift for any child whose family is getting a dog for the first time and is also wonderful for any dog-loving child. The illustrations detract a bit in a few places but do manage to show the closeness between the boy and his dog.
