Great Series!! Why Out Of Print?,

Max is bigger now than ever, and that's not even counting the new reunion tour with Springsteen and the E St. Band. This compilation of three discs, together with the accompanying (also out of print) book "The Big Beat", must have been a labor of love for Max. But it's also an ESSENTIAL part of the music collection of anyone who loves great drumming! Which has been kind of important in rock & roll!! So why did the record company drop this series from its current catalogue? The Big Five record companies are worse than the five mob families that once ruled New York City!

Finally a collection of songs that gives the drummer his or her due. The second of a three-CD series, proves that the 60s really rocked! A great collection of songs that blend across the boundaries of rock and R&B. Most interesting is the insightful and passionate liner notes written by Max Weinberg, drummer for Springsteen's E Street Band and Music Director and Bandleader for Conan O'Brien. The listener can feel the enthusiasm Max has for the subject matter and well, the music just speaks for itself! Great listening!

Max Weinberg of The E Street Band and Late Night With Conan O'Brien fame compiled a series of CDs spotlighting some of his favorite rock drummers. This particular volume covers the 1960s. Unfortunately, due to licensing restrictions, some important drummers had to be left out. So, there is no Ringo Starr (The Beatles), Charlie Watts (The Rolling Stones), Keith Moon (The Who) or Benny Benjamin (Motown). But a CD shouldn't be judged by what ISN'T on it, it should be judged by what IS on it. And what is here is a bunch of songs featuring great drumming. Actually, these songs don't just feature great drumming; they are great songs PERIOD. This could almost be considered to be a "hits of the '60s" album, except the Moby Grape song wasn't a hit (although it should have been). Recommended to anybody with an interest in rock drumming, or even if you just want to hear some great songs from the 1960s.
