On the brightest setting,this lamp fill the whole room with enough light for both of us to be happy, without the overheads.
The pole sections only screw together at the top and bottom - the other two connections are just loose friction connections made by inserting the poles together.
The "70 watt" rating is for the fluorescent lamp(s) it contains, and is equivalent in lighting to about 300 watts of incandescent light.
