A solid bet for fans of pop punk!, February 5, 2008
I had wanted this CD for a while, having heard their tracks on a few Warped Tour Samplers and Epitaph comps. They have a rhythmic drive and welcome variation within each track. And while this genre isn't very open to change or depth, I appreciate that Maxeen does venture for some creativity. I bought this particular version of the album because of the price (at the time) and bonus tracks. The best songs are still the few found on the Warped Tour compilations, but I did like the acoustic version of Soleil (only on the Japanese version); easily compared to Hey There Delilah or other semi-sappy pop-punk ballads. The standout tracks are Please, Strangers, and Lead Not Follow. If you're looking for a slightly more substantial alternative to the Plain White Tees or New Found Glory, pick up this Side One Dummy debut.
