As the author of the Jefferson Airplane book "Take Me To A Circus Tent", a former radio disc-jockey, and a collector of music I am often asked to write and or discuss various tape products as well as recordings from the 60's and 70's.
The Maxell XL2 and XL2S have long been the standard for blank chrome tapes (Position 2). The long term reliability is superlative as well as the initial quality. I have used thousands of Maxell tapes the past three decades plus and have never been disappointed with their audio tape or video. In order to receive the optimum performances please keep the tape heads clean. If they are not regardless of the great product, you will hear a muddy sound on playback. For music recording Maxell's chrome tape will surpass the harshest critic's expectations. If you are recording voice, only Maxell's Position 1 (Normal Bias) will be suitable for your needs.
