My review might be different from the rest. I got these headphones when I was looking for the best headphones possible under $30 USD. I went around asking on a community forum that is dedicated to the hobby of headphones (many audiophiles etc spending their money reviewing headphones). I have to say I do not regret it one bit. These headphones really can compete in the 50-80 USD range, but if you have that kind of money, you might want to compare to other HP's out there. All I know is that if you can find them for $30 or under it is seriously a steal. The materials are plastic, so that's not the best; and the durability is not that great either. You have to treat them according to the materials being used, you know? Again, if you find these anywhere that sell for around $30 or less, JUST GET THEM. Trust me you will not regret it (or, at least, you shouldn't). When it comes to the current set price of $60, I would have to say keep looking and see if others give you good guidance on what to get. I recommend HEAD-FI.ORG to anyone that needs help. They are a really reliable community and you will find your set of HP's by doing research there. Here is the thread I had started when I was looking: [...]

Sound compares to the $199 range brands like AKG, Sony MDR series, but the cheap plastic frame has no hinges and cracks, then disentigrates after 1-2 months of use. Bad frame design, holds good cups, and comfortable. If you rarely use these (couple hours a week) they might last. For semi-pro use, buy the Sony MDR-V6?? series, they have steel hinges and sound good.

These Headphones broke with regular use. They broke where the head piece connects to the ear piece on both sides. Yes I realize they are faily inexpensive but I expected them to last longer.

To start this off, my pair of headphones are still intact. I've used it nearly daily for the past few months, and it shows no sign of breaking.

The headphones have a 6 foot long nylon sheathed cord and come with an extension cable. The long cable is great for home use, but it might be bothersome in other places. Also, the comfort is amazing. The lightweight design and memory foam padding is great for extended use. The semi-open design leaks a little noise, but it is inaudible from a few feet away.

The sound impressed me at this low price. The bass extends deep and has a decent impact. It is not overpowering or aggressive, but it acts like a solid foundation for the rest of the sound. The mids are clear and detailed. They are centrally placed and upfront as it should be. The treble does not extend to the very top, but it is still satisfying. It is crisp with no sign of harshness. The headphones also present the music with a sense of space and layering.
Ideally, the bass could have a stronger impact, and the treble could extend higher. However, both can be overlooked at this price.

Overall, I highly recommend these headphones.

They sounded great while they were working properly. Tight, controlled bass with good texture. Mids and highs were just right. No harshness or sibilance in the highs; pretty smooth. They also come with some nice accessories: a pleather storage bag and a long extension cord.

My pair went bad after about two weeks of gentle use. The right driver developed a lot of distortion; bass impact on that side was pretty much gone, and the volume lowered significantly as well. Sounded like there was a channel imbalance toward the left side. I had to send them over to Maxell for a replacement because my seller refused to take returns/exchanges. Maxell's customer service is pretty good. I contacted them about the headphones via email and they were very courteous. I received a new pair after a little more than a month of waiting but they had the exact same problem that my old pair did, except this time the problem was on the left side driver.

I hope Maxell has addressed these durability/quality control problems with the newer DHP-III. If they sound anything like the DHP-IIs with a more robust frame then they should be winners.

I've owned these headphones for about 6 months - and initially was quite happy with them. The extra long cord would get tangled on my desk when using my headphones at my PC - but the sound quality was quite good for the 15 bucks I paid for hte headphones.

After owning them - the build quality is fragile as glass. There is a design weakness near the earpieces that the head harness breaks quite easily. I just broke them in the 3rd separate point by placing them on my desk after using them. I've got super glue and tape all over these headphones - and the glue is holding fine - but the band itself keeps breaking in new points on both sides. Not from droping them, or rolling over them with a chair - but putting them on my head - and then placing them on a desk after use.

I look forward to replacing these - probably with a cordless Sennheiser set - but even for 15 bucks - I wouldn't buy these again. The quality of design / materials is a ( -5 stars ).

Save your money - avoid this product
