very suprised,

I needed an inexpensive set of speakers to use with my MP3 player. I saw these Maxell's and figured I couldn't go wrong considering the price. I received them, hooked them up and they blew me away. For under 20 bucks I could not believe how good they sound. The flat panel speakers take up very little room on my shelf, the speakers have crisps highs, very good midrange. Voices sound as good as on my expensive big speakers. The little woofer adds a nice bottom end and is really decent considering the size. There's a wired remote that works OK. The speaker wire is a little cheesy, woofer enclosure pretty lightweight but afer looking a others in this range they are no better. I like these so much I'm getting a 2nd set for my computer.

I mounted the thin speakers on the wall behind my easy chair, put the subwoofer on the floor, then plugged 'em into a headphone extension cord running to my DirectTV receiver and DVD player. The performance and sound are quite nice, though the subwoofer does have a slight hum so the further away from you the better. The wired remote comes in mighty hand as well since I don't have to reach behind me to turn the speakers on anymore. They don't work quite as well when hooked to my MP3 player; any movement of the cord causes loud pops and cracks. But if I put the player down and don't touch it, there's no further problem and the sound is quite good. And for this cheap, I really can't complain.

Great for the price, but not the best sound,

I bought these speakers to listen to my Ipod. They work wonderfully for the price. The set up was a little complicated with 2 wires going from each speaker to the small subwoofer, a power cord, and a cord for your headphone jack. The unit sounds good with all speakers are close together, but the sound gets very top heavy when the speakers are separated. The subwoofer is so weak, that I have to have it on max volume to detect any lows. My other complaint is that the speakers can't get very loud and/or very high without hearing crackling or noticeable distortion. The unit is very stylish, but doesn't have "a rich, wide ranging sound." My suggestion is to get this unit if you don't mind compromising sound quality for price and space. But if you are willing to compromise, I'd get the "BOSE Companion 2 Speakers." They are still relatively cheap in price for a media sound system, and sound great.
