The MX50X3 boasts a 3000:1 contrast ratio, which means it's easy to view even in brightly lit rooms. It provides 1280-by-1024 (SXGA) resolution and is HD ready for signals up to 1080i. It is a vibrant display, too, with 16.7 million displayable colors. It offers a fairly wide 160-degree viewing angle, so it's sure to display well from a number of positions in the room.
Connections
The MX50X3 features flexible A/V and PC system configurations. Video connections include S-video, component, and auto detecting composite. You can have the set do double duty as a PC monitor, too, since it supports SXGA PC signals and comes with a common PC monitor port. You can also choose to control the MX50X3 via RS-232C interface. Of course, it's easy to switch between all of these different types of sources through the remote and the TV's picture-in-picture functionality.
HDMI Compatible
The set comes with a built-in High-Definition Multi-media Interface (HDMI) port, which is an interface format that provides uncompressed digital audio and video directly from a digital source, such as a DVD player, or a next-generation game system. It represents the current state of the art in high-definition video and sound because the information never has to be converted into an analog format or compressed. Another benefit of HDMI is that it puts all that information into one cable and one easy-to-use connector.
50-inch Widescreen
A general rule of thumb for selecting the right size television screen is that the screen width--not its 50-inch diagonal measurement--should be between three and five times the optimum viewing distance, such as the distance from the TV screen to where your eyes are while sitting on the couch. Less than that and you may be distracted by the scan lines of the picture. More than that, and you may lose the detail of your TV. Based on this guide, the MX50X3 is ideal for viewing distances of 11 to 18 feet.
