For the past 5 years I've had infestations of ants every spring. Like clockwork, swarming ants enter my house in early April. I would spray Raid etc. and it would slow them down but they'd keep coming for weeks after the initial swarm. At least 3 different types of ants come into the house at different intervals of the spring.

This year I was ready. I bought 2 boxes of the gel last year (along with the dispensing gun) to have it ready for this spring. As soon as I saw the winged little buggers I put down a bunch of this stuff near their trails. The following two days saw fewer ants and within a week I saw none at all. I did this at three different times for three different types of ants (pavement, small black ants and large black ants).

In my kitchen I found pavement ants (they love anything sugary) which were going after a bottle of maple syrup I had out. I put a few drops of the Max Force by the wall where I saw their trail and watched as they ate it up. 2 days later, no ants.

Honestly I can't believe it. I keep waiting for them to come back, I even poured a tiny bit of maple syrup on the counter to see if they'd come back and so far, nada. I'm only giving 4 stars to this b/c it's only been a couple of weeks and I can't say they're gone for the long term yet (potentially this stuff could rate 5 stars).

I have to say I'm impressed, this stuff really seems to work.

**FOLLOW UP**

About a month later I got more pavement ants coming from another direction in my kitchen. Not sure if it's the same colony, but something interesting happened. They came searching for food and there was a drop of honey on the countertop that they went after.

I had a significant carpenter ant problem in my garage. I was reticent about buying a product online that would prove to be ineffective. I figured I'd have to hire a licensed exterminator at significant cost. After doing additional research on extermination, and this product, I decided to give it a try. Well, I have to say, it worked incredibly well. As I applied the gel along the ants path, I could see them actually being attracted to the poison and ingesting it. Over the next 48 hours I saw them literally dropping like flies, those that weren't dead were wobbly and were on their way out. Then next day I saw the Queen ant (much larger with wings) ejected from the nest on my garage floor. It's been several months and I haven't seen an errant carpenter ant in my garage since. The only thing that bothers me is that for some reason I feel bad about killing all the ants. It sounds silly, but it haunts me. I guess I just have to "man up" and get over it.

I used this in combination with the Advance 375A carpenter ant bait. This one is sugar-based, the other is protein-based, so between the two of them you're guaranteed to have something the ants are looking for, because they change their diet based on the needs of the colony.

All I can say is, this combination seems to work. I put some out about 6 weeks ago and then went out of town. Since getting back, I've only seen one live ant and it was hiding out in the toilet brush holder (go figure). I was recently doing a thorough vacuum to prepare for treatment of bedbugs (NOT a DIY pest problem -- see a professional for that!!) and I came across dozens of twisted ant carcasses, caught in the throes of an apparently painful and excruciating death. Actually, they just looked the same as any dead ant, but I like my fantasy.

I won't know 100% for sure until next summer whether or not this cleared up my problem for good, as it's possible they've just gone into winter mode (it's a cold climate and it got cool early this year) but I'm crossing my fingers.

I have a 740 sqft house, and one tube was enough to cover the outside wall and inside wall where they seemed to be coming from, as well as the kitchen where they were foraging, and bathroom where they get water. There's still little golden globs all over my house, I'm in no rush to wash it off in case they come back.

WARNING FOR PET OWNERS: Cats like to eat this! I figured since it was sugar based, my cats wouldn't care. Well as soon as I put it out, I found one of them licking it. Now mind you, she's a little neurotic, but most cats are! So after chasing her away, I had to go around and clean up all the MaxForce they could reach. I left what I had put 4ft up the wall and along the ceiling, but cleaned what was on the baseboards. Good place to mention this stuff cleans off very easily even after 6 weeks and didn't leave any discolouration.

After trying many big box products without any success, I hired an exterminator. He sprayed to kill the ants I could see but he used Max Force to kill the ones I couldn't see.
He left some Max Force and I use it at the first sign of ants.

IT WORKS!

I had done a lot of reading online about home remedies and using non-toxic products to ward off and kill various sorts of ants. But, none of those ended up working. It was more time consuming than anything- making sure I mixed the proper ratios of Borax and sugar and boiling it with a certain amount of water for a certain amount of time. I don't have time for that!

This particular brand, MaxForce, was suggested to me by various exterminators in the Florida area. And it worked immediately! You can use it sparingly, which is great since the Florida area has a lot of recurrent ant problems. Definitely worth the advertised price and it gets the job done. You don't have to over kill your home. Just make strategic placements of the gel where you see the ants. They will come to it, take it back to their nest, feed it to the queen and larvae, killing the nest.

Don't use it in combination with Raid! Raid is only going to cause the ants to form a new colony in some other crevice of your home!

Another thing to be aware of is what type of ant the bait works with. Ants fond of sugar are highly attracted to it, while those who are more fond of protein will avoid it and find the bits of bacon or beef you left on the floor, completely ignoring the sweet gel. That's something else to be aware of. Be cognizant of the fact that you have to keep a clean home to avoid ants in general! The product can't do it's job unless you do your part too!
