Fine machine --- but ----,

This bagel cutter is everything the manufacturer claims it is but, in my case its of no use!! I buy my bagels from Costco and they are a good bargain; fresh, tasty and uncut. But, when trying to put them in the slicer they are too fat and wont go in without jamming! So I have two fine products that are incompatible. I investigated further and now know that I should have bought the commercial slicer.

the bagels will run and hide!,
By Enos Fudrucker (Deepest darkest Redmond, WA, USA) - See all my reviews Possibly inspired by the French revolution, the Bagel Biter borders on overkill - but you can't question it's effectiveness. Drop in a bagel, drop the blade, start schmearing cream cheese. It's very quick, very safe (if you can figure out how to hurt yourself with this, you're too smart for that nonsense in the first place) and very easy to clean. It's nonstick blade should cleave every conceivable bagel in your life. It misses 5 star perfection on account of messiness - its straighthrough design deposits crumbs right on your countertop. A crumb catcher of some sort would be the garlic spread on the potato bagel :-)

Trust me you will not regret. First saw something like this in our office kitchen. Love it ever since. Now I have one at home too!

Must have dishwasher....,

I really liked this bagel cutter. My husband claims they "moosh" the bagels more than cut them, but he does not heat his to a crisp crust (so keep that in mind if you like a soft crust). My complaint about this is that it is virtually impossible to clean if you do not have a dishwasher. I have tried every sponge and scrubber out there and nothing works. If it is flat and narrow enough to fit between the blade and the clear plastic around it, the blade catches it and stops it from moving. It literally cannot be hand-washed to any acceptable cleanliness (and we aren't that picky....). Fantastic item if you have a dishwasher to put the whole thing in every time you use it. Unless you have soft bagels.

I love bagels, but am not very good with sharp knives, and every time I had to slice a bagel, my prime concern was not to have an "even" two halves, but to get through the procedure without cutting myself. I still have a scar on my right index finger from a knife wound I inflicted on myself when I was seven years old - yes, I was trying to slice a bagel, and this was more years ago then I even want to acknowledge. This Larien Bagel Biter is the perfect solution. You put the bagel in, lift the blade handle, and slice it. I wouldn't let little kids use it because there is a possible danger of their cutting themselves on the blade (which will happen if you don't read the very easy directions, but even they can be trained to use this wonderful little appliance. I am incredibly happy to have acquired this little wonder-machine in my kitchen. It's a vital commodity for bagel-lovers.

3 years strong,
This review is from: Bagel Biter (Kitchen)
On average we buy a bakers dozen twice a month and use our bagel guillotine to cut all of the bagels at once and then freeze them. The blade is still fine after 3 years, safe for kids to use, easy to wash (one poster claims to put it in the dishwasher but I thought it says not dishwasher safe on the box and I haven't risked it), I hand wash after each use. It would be great if they had a way to catch crumbs, but it already saves so much time and takes a second to wipe up 50 sesame seeds. I love this product!
