We didn't buy ours at Amazon, but did buy two of these exact products about 5 years ago to use with our laptops. We have a 15" laptop on one, a 17" laptop on the other. Very sturdy; enough room for a mouse to sit to the side. You can put the pencil ledge at the top to keep the computer from sliding off the end while sliding back in your recliner - or keep the ledge at the bottom and keep a pen handy there. We've each had ours for almost 5 years now, and other than wishing we could add a little more cushioning materials to the bottom now, they are every bit as nice as the day we bought them. Very nice, well-made product.

As a freelance writer who frequently resorts to long-hand scribbling, I needed something other than a clipboard to support my notepad or editing work-in-progress. This lap desk is all I could have asked for! The wood top is very sophisticated. The felt bottom, which appears to be filled with micro-beads, is very supportive. I haven't gotten "desk fatigue" from having the desk on my lap for too long.

I've even taken the desk when I traveled on a business trip, and was able to catch a baseball game from the comfort of the hotel room couch rather than be cramped at the tiny table.

This desk gets rave reviews from this writer. No cheesy design, but a classy look and feel. I definitely recommend it.

I got this product faster than anticipated - I was expecting it about a week after I actually got it. It's a very nice color, closer to a cherry red than the color in the picture on this site. It's big enough and sturdy enough for a smallish laptop (say, a five pound laptop). The desk itself is rather lightweight as well. The padding is a basic pellet filled black cloth sack. It's soft and distributes nicely.

One minor problem is that there was some slight chipping on two corners of the desk, but I'd attribute this to the delivery rather than the manufacturer (I had another item shipped with this, and the boxes were a bit banged up). It's nothing that a little nailpolish or leftover varnish or something can't fix.

It's definitely not a bad buy, even with the one or two minor blemishes.

I was very pleased with this item. I ordered it for my husband for his birthday and was very pleasantly surprised at it's quality and sturdiness. You can't tell how well something is made from a picture, but for the price, this is a great find.

Wood screws have fallen. Bottom frame has come apart. Poor quality for the price. Beans of bean bag started to come out when the bottom frame started to become loose. Truly disapointed with this product

First of all it's beautiful, right side up and upside down. That is, not only is the wood fine looking, but the microfiber-covered base (the filled part that rests on your lap) is very attractive in addition to being soft and comfortable. The lap desk is solid, strong, and versatile. It holds my laptop at exactly the right height for typing and seeing the screen. And as it turns out, it's also the right thickness for writing, reading, and--I confess--snacking. It is a bit heavier than previous lap desks I've had, but I knew that it would be when I decided on beautiful wood rather than a more lightweight material. The heaviness is not excessive, however, and it actually makes for a good, secure, solid feeling when it's on your lap, especially when supporting a laptop computer.

I ordered this lap desk as a Christmas gift for my son and both he and I were very pleased with it. The wood is beautiful and it came exactly as described. I would purchase from this buyer again.

I bought this product but returned it within a couple of days. Why? Although I found it to be a high quality lap desk and very comfortable to use on my lap, all the cushioning underneath made my lap way too warm very quickly, and so I just couldn't use it comfortably, as my thighs would get sweaty in only a matter of minutes.

I ended up buying the Levenger Lap Desk from Levenger.com (item # AD4985) that works much better in that it doesn't sit directly on my lap (instead, each end of the lap desk sits on the arms of my lounge chair, and so there's no heat put on my thighs -- this is the lap desk I use when sitting in my living room); however, this lap desk is $48, which is kind of high in my opinion, but it is well constructed and durable, and at the time I bought it I found a 30% off coupon code on [...] and so that made the price much more reasonable.

For sitting in bed, I found a fantastic handcrafted lap desk that I absolutely love for a little over [...] on eBay (including shipping) thru an eBay seller by the name of William Gould in Brookville, PA, who crafts each desk by hand in solid cherry wood -- this lap desk also doesn't sit directly on your lap, as it hovers above your legs at adjustable heights, and so you're not dealing with the heat problem with this desk either -- if you're interested in that type of lap desk, go to eBay and search for William Gould -- his eBay ID is: wmgould). [...]makes a similar lap desk that would be great for using in bed called the Lapster Lap Desk Tray (item # FA2595), but in my opinion it's way overpriced at[...]

I say all of this because it was frustrating buying one lap desk, then having to return it and buy another one, and so perhaps this will save you some of the trouble and hassle I experienced.

I bought this for my husband as a birthday present. He likes to sit on the sofa and watch TV while writing bills and is always trying to find something solid - a book, notebook, or leaning way over or sitting on the floor to write on the coffee table. One evening in the middle of bill writing he blurted out that he wants lap desk!

I read the reviews of many of the various lap desks available and settled on this one because of all the good reviews it received, and because it was made out of wood. Hubby has used it a few times now and though he says his lap gets a little bit warm where it rests, he's quite happy with it. It seems to be well constructed and the bean-bag like cushion on the bottom appears very durable. It molds itself into the shape of your lap so the desk will sit straight and stable. The filling can be replaced through the zipper in the fabric. The narrow strip of wood at the bottom of desk is handy to keep a pencil/pen from rolling away and landing in the couch cushions or on the floor. And it's not too heavy nor too light - just right.

I don't consider it to be a fine piece of furniture that will be handed down to our kids when we bite the dust, it's not that well made or finely finished. Though it has a nice cherry finish, it's pretty plain jane with no frills, but it should last for several years and I don't foresee any problems with it. We haven't used our laptop on it yet, but I'm sure the desk will be fine for that. It stores nicely under the couch too and is there ready and waiting to be used when he (or anyone else) needs it. I'm probably going to buy my mother one since she loves to sit in front of the TV and work cross-word puzzles.

It's beautiful AND functional. I wanted something for use in writing in (paper) notebooks while sitting around my home office, so they wouldn't bend down over my leg and make writing difficult. (I journal and scribble a lot for work.) I also wanted something to use with my laptop while in the car. This is perfect for both. The cushion is great, and has a zipper so you can add more polystyrene beads later on, presumably after these ones start to flatten some. This thing is just great to have around. I'm always worried that I'm going to spend money on something I won't like or use, but this is perfect and I use it multiple times daily now, and I don't mind leaving it lying around the living room, because it looks so good. It seems really sturdy - the guy who gave the bad review must have got a bad one or had his damaged in shipping. My screws are all solidly set in place and it's not chipped.
