As for a review of the seat itself, we were familiar with Maxi Cosi from living in England (very popular brand there) and it is compatible with our Bugaboo Chameleon. It is a shame that it does not have the same higher weight limit as other US brands (Chicco, Graco) but compared to those, it is much lighter and I think, more fashionable. The other brands always seem so bulky to me. Our first daughter was very happy in her Maxi Cosi car seat. As someone else mentioned the fabric is nice and as we live now in a warm climate, I think it will hold up well and not make our new child sweat too much. When the base is installed, it does have some give to it, but as long as you really tighten it by pushing down with your hand, as they suggest, it should be fine. The sun shade on the US version is an improvement from the UK one, but still not great, but I am not sure any car seat has a great shade. Best to purchase one of those separate covers if you really need it. A note to anyone else trying to use a UK Maxi Cosi in a US car, it is NOT compatible with the US car base. If you still want to use the UK model, you need to use the seat belt option.
To be honest, I have nothing to compare this to, so this might not be a fair review. However, the cushion is soft and I love that there's side impact protection as well. My only complaint is that I think the seat can get really hot, because sometimes my baby's back is wet after a 20 minute car ride. (That could also be weather related)
The straps are easily adjustable. I have yet to figure out how to clean it but will soon. The canopy is a little short in my opinion but, I'm told most car seats don't have a very long canopy. If I didn't like this car seat believe, me I would have returned it.
The max weight is 22 lbs so I hope to use it at least until she's 10 months before I switch to a convertible.
They have a high safety rating and are listed above many other brands on the consumer reports website. The other great thing about the Maxi Cosi Mico is that they are compatible with many of the high end strollers. We have twins and wanted a side by side stroller that would hold two car seats at the same time. When went with a combo of the Maxi Cosi Mico's and the Bumbleride Indie Twin. It's a great setup and does everything we want. Our baby boys were 6 lbs 13 oz 20 inches and 6 lbs 6 oz 19 inches and they fit in the car seats just fine. There was no issues with them passing the car seat test in the hospital before we were discharged.
Overall, we are very happy with the car seats and would recommend them to family and friends.
This seat fits nicely into our minivan, but it is quite long (so is the base), and I suspect it would be hard to fit it into smaller cars.
-Installation: I wish Maxi Cosi would come out with an installation video for You Tube (much like Britax). While it seems straight forward, it would have been nice to see a demo. We ended up having our car seat checked by the local safety police, to find out we did it wrong.
- Size: If you drive a small car (like my Honda Civic), you may want to steer clear of this. While it's design is clean and great to look at it, it's an awkward shape. We installed this in the center of my backseat. Otherwise, we would not be able to push the front seats back to where my husband (6ft tall) could drive my car comfortably. On the same note, while it's the lightest you can purchase, it is awkward shaped to carry on your arm. Esp after adding a 17+ lb baby.
-Getting the carrier in and out of the base is not a flawless task. The lock 'sticks' sometimes and the carrier does not always snap in the first time. Sometimes, you have to fiddle with the base release lever, to have it 'reset' to pop the carrier back in.
- Handle: there is no rubber grip on the top center of the handle to attach the fun, cute toys for my baby. It's sleek plastic, slips right off.
-The sun shade is not as sturdy, nor cover as well, as other major car seat brands.
All that aside, my baby does like this car seat.Read more ›

I expected the car seat to be wider than it is. I am yet to have my baby but I guess it would be comfortablePublished on August 3, 2013 by Urhobogirl
