This review is from: Maximilian Saint of Auschwitz [VHS] (VHS Tape)
Defillipis worked with PBS looking dramas for years before he hit on this great stage play yet still relying on the one-man play formulas of the earlier works like "Saint Francis, Troubador of God's Peace" but combining it with motion picture techniques too. Fantastic and easily more successful than most movies while working on a more humble budget than Hollywood and working with Ignatius Press as well.
It may be only my perceptions, but it is splendidly moving, authentic looking and it seems to accurately portray not only the world of St. Maximilian Kolbe but also his interior being and spirituality, indeed making the words of this Martyred Saint come to life with some clearly taken from His writings found in Will to love: Reflections for daily living. It really does seem to follow what has been said about other movies, divinely inspired, the hand of the Saint almost seems to be involved in the production. |
