I bought this book after reading Alan Weiss's book, "Money Talks." It is amazing that he wrote this booklet as a retail item for his talks. Everyone should read this book that is in the business of "pricing" themselves...lawyers, CPAs, consultants, seminar leaders, etc. And everyone should read it before a job interview! It gave me an entirely different perspective on my value. A company currently is negotiating to hire me to be in charge of a new division...I will now structure my compensation package based on the value I will bring to the company, not just what my "time" is "worth." This powerful little book is only 50 pgs long and should be in every personal business library. Great find!

Weiss's book is wonderful. It's brimming with 1-3 page thought pieces about techniques and basic premisses of prof. service billing. From a consultant's perspective (mine), the book look's like it would apply to almost any profession. When reading this, it's important to realize that Weiss is a strong believer in fixed price services (as compared to pure time and materials with less structured deliverables). Quite frankly, Weiss's concept of balancing value delivered with client fees (if a client wants to pay less, they get less value), is excellent. It helped me keep $30,000 of fees in a client project that would have otherwise been lost.

Adopting the principles of this book enabled me to triple my income in less than two years. Very concise, very on the mark guide to how to improve your perspective on your own work as an entrepreneur. Of course, I've read most of Alan's other books as well.

The author has cemented what i know about Packaging my fees. Do NOT give hourly rates but rather identify the savings or value to the client.
This will allow the consultant to gain leverage. This book is good reading. Jeff Perth Western Australia

Horrible!,

The book is readable within an hour and offers some of the worst advise I've ever seen. There are three central themes to the book: Drop long-term, lower paying clients; Add new clients at higher fees ("Maximized"), and never lower your fees unless the client perceives he's receiving less in return. If you want to spend $6.95 to receive this advice--send the money to me.

A Brief Version of "Value Based Fees" - worth the read,

In my mind, this book is little more than an earlier version of Alan Weiss's "Value Based Fees: How to Charge and Get What Your Worth." Even so, I found it worthwhile and worth the time I spent on it.
In fact, if you want to review value-priced strategies, reading this little booklet on "How To Maximize Fees" is the quickest and easiest way to remind yourself of what you can do to offer greater value in your consulting practice and get paid for it. The book does not have as much "theory" as Alan's other books. Which might make it a stretch for you if you are just learning the concepts.

The value of this booklet far outweighs its size and price. It's like a master checklist for profitability in a service company, delivered in bite-size chunks by someone you can see is an expert in their craft.

The small size and low price of this book should not be confused with the large value contained in it. This is a handy reference guide to proven practices from one of the country's most successful consultants.

Alan Weiss tells it like it is. If you want to learn from one of the best...read EVERYTHING Alan Weiss writes! Alan's insights and experience are second to none. I personally own just about every book Alan Weiss has written. He is not only a consultant's consultant, but he is also a gifted writer as well.
