2.0 out of 5 stars Author Does Not Know HIIT! February 7, 2013
    By Damian
    Format:Kindle Edition
I bought this book because of the good reviews, reviews after having read the book I can only assume are friends of the author.

Firstly, the most detailed part of the book was the contents page and my kindle reader said I was 10% of the way through the entire book by the time I reached chapter 1. By the time you get through chapter 2 you have already read three separate disclaimers, telling you to get clearance from a doctor before taking part in HIIT. While this is good advice, it sure does get repetitive.

Once the book starts properly, I became confused by, "Thus, HIIT with anaerobic exercise will produce more results than HIIT with aerobic exercise." I've read over that line several times and I still don't know what is meant? It is not explained. HIIT is exercise with both anaerobic AND aerobic, not either/or.

It was actually an irritating read due to the amount of times it repeats; warm up and cool down, warm up and cool down, over and over again. Yes, good advice! But how many times do you need to provide filler content?

I was interested in reading about the Little Method, which was new to me. However this only lasted for about a page and by the end of it, I was not the wiser. I give you two stars instead of one because you have pointed me in the direction of this method, which I shall research.

The book does indeed emphasize the concept of post exercise fat burning which it hammers home reasonably well, but the book does not mention any of HIIT's other benefits like increased VO2 max, improved athletic performance, endorphin levels and improved anaerobic threshold, or if it did, then it was so short that I missed it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Makes perfect sense! February 5, 2013
    By David
    Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I learned about intervals last year and incorporated them in my running program. For the first time I was able to do a century in under 5 hrs, so I know they work. Get ready though because they hurt! ....in a good way.

I got this book to understand more of why they worked and more tips on how to do them. This book does not dissapoint, I am motivated to keep it up. Very good information! Short and to the point.

4.0 out of 5 stars The theory behind HIIT gives me the motivation I needed January 20, 2013
    Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I first learned about interval training when reading the popular book The 4-Hour Body by Timothy Ferriss. I then experimented a bit with Tabata training and dipped a toe into the Insanity program, but I never bothered to read more in-depth about the theory behind these programs. This ebook has taught me more than just the basics. Backed up by theory, I have found the motivation to really give high intensity interval training a go. If the author had included some pictures, I would have given him a fifth star.

5.0 out of 5 stars short but intense workouts January 17, 2013
    Format:Kindle Edition
I love the workouts and training methods presented in this book. Never tried high intensity interval training before and this book is such a good resource for a beginner (great for advanced athletes too). I tried other structured workouts before but I find HIIT to be more apt for my current lifestyle.

The book presents different high intense training methods to really get in shape. It explains how each method work and the benefits/advantages and disadvantages of each method are discussed in detail. The ideal exercises for each intense training method are clearly presented. If you are aiming for weight loss and fitness within short period of time, this book is for you.

I really enjoyed reading this book. Before, I hadn't really heard of the effectiveness of high intensity interval training methods to get in better shape. Jogging can take up a lot of time, which I don't always have during a busy week. The training methods described in this book allow you to exercise for shorter periods of time whilst attaining the same and even better results than moderate intensity exercises.

I like how this book describes several different training methods for high intensity interval training and instructs the reader well how to perform exercises while minimizing the risk of injury. The book also includes very useful workouts for beginning, intermediate and advanced athletes. I will start with the beginner's workouts, but look forward to moving up to the more intense workouts at some point!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great training book! January 10, 2013
    Format:Kindle Edition
I just read the book in one setting and can see why my previous routines weren't productive. The info in this book makes a lot of sense, this should finally help me with saving my time at the gym as I don't have time to spend hours at working out at the gym anymore. Book is easy to read and to follow. Great info!
