This book helped me to discover, while my daughter was still an infant, that she is a mover type of learner. According to the author, this type of learner tends to be the least successful in school. However, this book taught me how to build on my child's innate style to develop her other capabilities as "looker" and "listener". Now, at almost 5 years of age, my daughter has a more balanced learning style and is doing wonderfully in preschool. Even though not all of the games, toys, and other resources recommended in the book are available where I live, the concepts are clear enough so that I am able to apply them with the things that are within my reach. This would make an excellent gift to new parents.

What a wonderful book this is! Dr. Lauren Bradway and Barbara Albers Hill do an excellent job of describing what "Looker", "Listener", and "Mover" children are. They also show parents how they can help their children become a more "balanced learner"!

I enjoyed reading the examples of each child's learning style, and was appreciative for the many informative checklists spread throughout the book. Parents can discover what kind of learning style their child has, and put to use the many wonderful suggestions provided throughout the book. These ideas will show parents how they can help their children develop their own style of learning.

Balance-this is a key to happiness in life. And to find balance in the skills of Looking, Listening and Moving is crucial for our children as they navigate the masses of information they will encounter as they grow. Dr. Bradway's book How to Maximize Your Child's Learning Ability is an invaluable resource in helping children create balance in their lives. By first identifying the child's inherent skills and then reinforcing those less dominant abilities, our children can learn to observe, focus and take appropriate action. Thus they will be successful in learning and in life. Thank you Dr. Bradway for the volumes of resources your have culled and the inspiration you provide!

Awareness of a person's own learning style and the need to develop a balanced learning style are outstanding features of this book. Teachers have the difficult task of using multi-modalilty techniques to address all learning styles. However, not all material can be presented that way. Also, 80% of learners are visual learners. Sometimes modern trends in multi-modality teaching even tend to short-change that 80% in efforts to reach the all learners.

It is limiting for a student to have a negative attitude about even trying any style other than the one he or she uses best. Learners should maximize their own most efficient styles but this should not be done at the exclusion of other styles. There is probably no one who learns only one way.

There is a timeless quality to the material in this book. It is based on sound research and experience. Fads in toys come and go, but new toys can be found or improvised to meet the needs of a variety of learning styles.

Do not you think it is about time to update the book.
It is frustrating to face the fact that there is more than 50% of the toys listed cannot be found on the internet and in any stores???
