About the Author

Edward Kachinske is the author or co-author of 22 titles, including Managing Contacts with ACT! 2005, Managing Contacts with ACT! 2006, and Managing Contacts with Outlook 2007 Business Contact Manager, all published by Course PTR. Edward has also published more than 100 articles in CRM industry journals. Through print journals and electronic publications, more than a half-million people regularly read Edward’s articles. Throughout his 10 years in the industry, Edward has been a frequent speaker on contact management subjects. In 2001, Edward started an annual conference, now called Mastering Your Small Business. The conference is geared towards CRM consulting firms. The event attracts hundreds of consulting firm owners each year. Edward is the President of Innovative Solutions CRM, a firm that helps customers choose and implement contact management and CRM solutions. Edward lives and works in Washington, DC.

Timothy Kachinske has authored more than a dozen titles in the CRM world, including Managing Contacts with ACT! 2005, Managing Contacts with ACT! 2006, and Managing Contacts with Outlook 2007 Business Contact Manager. He has published more than 150 industry-related articles, and he works as a contact management consultant for Innovative Solutions. Some chose a CRM. Others have a CRM thrust upon them. I am in the second category. So I needed to know what MS Dynamics CRM could do and, to a lesser extent, how to do it. This book provides much of the "what it can do." The "how to do it" is, in most cases, a statement of the bleeding obvious. That might be useful to the less IT adept. Also useful are the extensions suggested in the last chapter of the book.

In summary: a very useful complement to the software.

Maximizing Your Sales with Microsoft Dynamics CRM 4.0 is required reading for anyone using this product. It's full of step-by-step instructions for the most commonly used functions within CRM, and it's organized in a way that makes it easy to find the task you're looking for. For a beginner user to the product, this manual is easier to sift through than others I've seen, and so I'd say (without reservation) that this book should be your starting point as a Microsoft CRM user.

Ed and Tim have done it again - they've written the best book for using Microsoft Dynamics CRM to increase your sales, improve your productivity and become more efficient and effective. Their writing style it not intelligence-insulting, not is it hokey (aka Dummies), nor is it so stratospheric as to be over their audience' head. They achieve that ideal balance. Maximizing your Sales with Microsoft Dynamics CRM 4.0 can almost be used as a reference - I find myself pulling it back off the shelf to answer specific questions - on importing, on reporting, on workflow and campaigns - I'm able to quickly jump to the answer and not have to wade through paragraphs of fluff to find what I'm looking for. If you're only going to buy one book on MS CRM, this should be the one.
