Editorial Reviews

Review

Scott Chou has captured his Kauffman Fellows Program and venture capital investing experience in this very concise, insightful, and most memorable treatise on the art and craft of venture capital investing. His pithy quotes elucidate key lessons and insights from an insider's and investor's perspective. It is an invaluable, entertaining, and easy to read guide for entrepreneurs and aspiring VCs alike. --Jeffry A. Timmons, Franklin W. Olin Distinguished Professor of Babson College, Author of New Venture Creation, Co-Founder of the Kauffman Fellows Program

Product Description

As an experienced entrepreneur, technologist, and venture capitalist, Scott Chou brings you on the inside of today s startup world. Maxims, Morals, and Metaphors is a humorous and profound compilation of business metaphors assembled to teach the art of venture capital as outlined in popular textbooks. However, in contrast to the daunting encyclopedic approach taken by many conventional textbooks, this audiobook seeks to provide longer term retention for the average listener through wit and wisdom. Students of venture capital and experienced venture capitalists in search of teaching tools are the target audience for this book. For all practitioners of venture capital, this audiobook is not so much about learning something new as much as it is about bringing best practices to the subconscious level where they can be instantly relied upon for the innumerable snap judgments that are typical of the industry.

5.0 out of 5 stars Audiobook Complements Hardcopy: Get Both!!, October 24, 2008

(REAL NAME)
This review is from: Maxims, Morals, and Metaphors: A Primer on Venture Capital (Audio CD)
I had the hardcopy of "Maxims, Morals, and Metaphors" first and loved it. So I got the audiobook also. It really is a different experience listening, compared to reading. With the hardcopy, I used to jump around, enjoying the witty phrases used by venture capitalists and entrepreneurs, trying to memorize a few to use and improve my own work and presentations. With the audiobook, however, I found myself sitting through the entire 94 minutes straight. Whereas I used the hardcopy more as a reference, picking phrases from a few pages at a time, the audio CD narrative taught me a lot more about what happens end-to-end in Silicon Valley. So I don't think the audiobook replaces the hardcopy, or vice versa, they both complement each other. Get both!
