This review is from: Maximum Focus (Audio CD)
There has been considerable research into the influence music exerts on academic performance. Almost all teachers are aware of this research, but few have ever tried to implement it into their classrooms. Several years ago, however, I was fortunate enough to work with a colleague, Ms. Tran, who used ADT's "Sound Health" series in her classroom. She graciously shared the collection with me and I was impressed enough to buy several titles in the series. I purchased a few CDs in the series and have been very pleased by the results.
In my classroom, I use the Music for Learning CD and, during tests, I use the Maximum Focus CD. I cannot claim that I have rigorously tested the effects of these CDs. I am constantly modifying what I do in the classroom, so isolating a the precise impact of a single modification is difficult. I have, however, noted that my students are more on task during, and especially immediately after, test time than they were before I used the music from this series. At this point, I use these products on a regular basis in my classroom and am very pleased at the results. Test scores are also up. Maximum focus is recorded at 24bit/192 kHz in High Definition. It consists of Baroque pieces with 50 to 70 beats per minute. For teachers hoping to tap into music to help their students, this is a nice selection. I suspect that anyone else hoping to improve their focus would benefit as well. |
