Product Description

GameSpot Review
Maximum Force is Atari Games' follow-up to the alien-infested gun game, Area 51. In this installment, the aliens are gone, and you're part of an antiterrorist group. You (and a friend) must go through three levels, each of which is chock-full of bad guys just waiting to have their caps peeled back.

If you've played Area 51, you'll pick up Maximum Force right away. With the exception of the levels themselves, the game is identical, right down to many of the power-ups. Also, a lot more bonus levels have been tossed in. So many, in fact, that they become a real nuisance and interrupt gameplay way too frequently. The game supports the standard assortment of light guns out there as well as Namco's super accurate GunCon. The problems that Area 51 had with certain guns (like Konami's Justifier) have mostly been resolved, although the standard guns still aren't as accurate as they should be.

The graphics are decent, and the PlayStation does a good job of displaying the game's FMV. The sound effects and music are also above average. All in all, Maximum Force presents itself fairly well.

Playing Maximum Force is a one-time deal. Once you've finished it (anyone can do it the first time through), there's no point in continuing to play it. Compared with other gun games, Maximum Force falls short. Gamers will be better served by picking up Time Crisis or even Die Hard Trilogy. --Jeff Gerstmann

Manufacturer Description
Sometimes you'd feel better if you could just shoot everything in sight. [But then there's that death penalty thing.] Time to lock and load pal. Straight from arcades everywhere here comes Maximum Force where it's you against elusive terrorists and you control the body count. You'll board helicopters ATV's underwater vehicles and shoot literally everything in sight. Gun down slimeballs on three completely different missions. Blast your way into over 35 secret rooms and blow away everything with extreme prejudice. With Maximum Force there's no such thing as too much firepower.

4.0 out of 5 stars Real actors get blasted!, January 30, 2000

When I first played this shooter, it was in the arcade.I really enjoyed the gameplay.I also like that it's not an unrealistic 3-D polygonal shooter.Midway did an acceptional job on Maximum Force. The background objects to shoot at are for fun but some can lead to special bonuses. Also, the feature of using real people in the game made a more action-packed, realistic sequence for the game. The only problem of disappointment I had with it was that there are only two powerup weapon upgrades (shotgun and machine gun).Otherwise, Maximum Force is great!

3.0 out of 5 stars Too many civilians ruined this game., March 31, 2008
Fun:3.0 out of 5 stars
The title of my review speaks for itself basically. With a shooting game, you'd think you can just blast away right? Well guess again. While there are plenty of bad guys for you to shoot up, sometimes it seems that there are just as many civilians. I lost more lives accidentally shooting civilians that pop up out of nowhere than getting shot at by the bad guys. If you are a die hard fanatic of light gun games then get it but if not there are better games out there.

Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars
I bought this for my son, who is ten and he says that it is the best game that I ever bought for him. He truly enjoys it, and spends a great amount of time playing it.
Thank you,
jesses mom
