5.0 out of 5 stars teenage book
I purchased this book for my 14-year old son. He loves this series. Read each book in a couple of days because he couldn't set it down.

3.0 out of 5 stars Good series let down by plot holes.
There is a lot of tension and excitement in this instalment of the CHERUB series, including one of the most thrilling scenes in the whole series when Lauren, the younger sister of the main character, is about to be suffocated! But apart from a couple of highlights like that, the book as a whole is a let-down.

It's supposed to be about a maximum security...

5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic!!!, April 30, 2010
This series keeps getting better and better. What makes this such a great read is that in the past CHRUB has missions to people into jail, but now, in this mission, CHERUB has to break someone out of jail.

In this book, CHERUB has to get close to an arms dealer's son to get to the arms dealer. To do this, James is sent to jail in order to break out with the arm's dealer's son. I know that sounds like a fast review, but that's all I really want to say about the plot. I don't want to give anything away.

The characters are fantastic! I like how Lauren is being developed and how they are showing the bond between James and her. I also liked how James had to deal with things that went on in jail, and there was a prety nice plot twist. Again, I don't want to spoil anything.

We are also see how Lauren completes basic training.

This is such a good series. The author has the ability to keep the reader glued to the pages through great characters, interesting plots, plot twits, and great a wonderful writing style.

If you haven't started this series yet, I highly suggest it.

3.0 out of 5 stars Good series let down by plot holes., September 9, 2011
There is a lot of tension and excitement in this instalment of the CHERUB series, including one of the most thrilling scenes in the whole series when Lauren, the younger sister of the main character, is about to be suffocated! But apart from a couple of highlights like that, the book as a whole is a let-down.

It's supposed to be about a maximum security prison and a daring escape. But when it comes to it, how do the characters escape? By opening a fire escape door and walking out. Seriously?! It really feels like this is the point where the author runs out of imagination.

The series as a whole is good, but this must be the weakest of all of the books.

If you want something seriously exciting and with a plot that actually works then you should be reading the early Alex Rider books by Anthony Horowitz or the Jimmy Coates books by Joe Craig.

5.0 out of 5 stars My Favorite in the series so far, August 13, 2009
I spead through books 1-5 and Maximum Security is my favorite out the first five of the Cherub series. Its dark, intense and violent. All the things I look for in a spy thriller.

I started reading the series out of sequence when I picked up a copy of Maximum Security at my library and I was completely hooked. I read through this one in a day and a half and the rest shortly after. May be a bit dark for some younger readers, but for anyone who wants to graduate from Alex Rider(which I also liked) to something a bit more mature I recommend Cherub.
