Book Description

(Donatelli Series - Book 1) Newlywed Cara Andrews overhears her husband talking to his girlfriend about locking Cara in an institution so he can steal her inheritance. Frightened, Cara sneaks away and rents a run-down cabin in Gig Harbor, intending to hide out until she can end her marriage.

When the cabin collapses in an earthquake, a neighbor, Nick Donatelli, risks his life to rescue her. The roads are damaged, power and phones are out. They're trapped in Nick's cabin on the shores of Puget Sound.

Nick is warm and friendly, and she enjoys his company. When he learns who she is, he's uncomfortable. Cara is one of the wealthiest women in the world, and he's a man who works with his hands. She's falling in love, but her husband is a ruthless man who'll do anything to get his hands on her estate. Cara knows she has to leave before her husband tracks her down, before he hurts Nick. Before he kills her.

5.0 out of 5 stars A beautiful romance and exciting suspense November 10, 2011
Format:Kindle Edition
Sue Fineman has done it again. She's written another terrific romantic suspense. Maxine is the first in the Donatelli Series. Maxine hooked me from the first page. Cara Andrews, a woman who grew up rich but without love, hears her husband conspiring with his mistress to send Cara to a mental institution so he can get his hands on her money. Cara runs away, and while hiding is injured when an earthquake destroys her rental cabin. Nick Donatelli, a warm-hearted guy who battled adversity his whole life, rescues Cara. During the course of the story Cara grows into a confident young woman who learns to fight for what she wants. Nick isn't your classic hunky hero. He has flaws, inner and outer, but his heart is so warm and he does all he can to help Cara, that I couldn't help but fall in love with him. Nick is a true hero. As Nick and Cara fall in love, they are stalked by Cara's husband, bent now on murdering them both. I couldn't put down this book and read it quickly. Just when I thought I knew what was going to happen, Ms. Fineman threw in a twist that kept me reading. I highly recommend Maxine.

5.0 out of 5 stars great start to anther series! December 7, 2011
Format:Kindle Edition
So, here's the plan:. Read Nick's Journey so you know where the hero came from, then dive right into Maxine. You'll soon be in love, just like Cara!

I don't know why Ms. Fineman wasn't snapped up by an agent or publisher long ago. Her books are filled with tension, conflict and passion. Her characters are well-balanced and detailed, and I have loved each and every hunk, er, hero, along the way.

When you finish one book, I promise you'll be hunting for the next to see which of the secondary characters she has written about!

5.0 out of 5 stars Loved it! January 11, 2012

This is a great first book in this series. The twists and turns as "Maxine" strikes out and takes control of her life. Cara ( Maxine) shows courage when forced into situations of life and death and finds strength to use her wealth for the benefit of others. Well worth reading. I will be purchasing the rest of the books in this series as this is well written and enjoyable.

4.0 out of 5 stars Romantic & Suspenseful!! June 23, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition
Maxine (Donatelli Series) by Author Sue Fineman is a very enjoyable novel. The main characters, Cara Andrews and Nick Donatelli captured my heart right at the onset.

The suspenseful plot develops at a captivating pace as it quickly engages its audience in the theme of the novel. Cara learns news of the upcoming betrayal of her husband Lance and the double life he is leading with someone on her staff. Cara, as an heiress to one of the wealthiest estates, realizes he has married her for her money and intends to put her in a sanitarium. She flees her home and rents a small isolated cabin in order to figure out how to remedy her situation when an earthquake threatens her very existence. Under the rubble and fighting for her life, Cara is rescued by her rough and tumble neighbor, Nick Donatelli. He comes with a sad story of his own but he brings with him a close knit Italian family who manage to save Cara from more than the effects of the earthquake. Nick quickly takes Cara under his wing as she adopts the name Maxine Donatelli to hide her true identity, not only from her husband but from the hounding of the persistent newsreporters.

I thoroughly enjoyed the transition from the shy, almost mousey personality of Cara, into her alter ego/persona, Maxine, as she painstakenly takes charge of her life and her estate. The sensually charged romance between Cara and Nick add to the reader's delight. There was one specific sex scene that took me by surprise. As predictable as the love affair between Nick and Cara might have been, all the other sub-plots contribute to this well-written romantic suspense novel. I look forward to reading more books by Author Sue Fineman!

5.0 out of 5 stars Maxine by Sue FIneman November 6, 2011

Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I don't know how she does it. Sue Fineman always finds a wonderful mix in her stories, light hearted humour, thrilling adventure, tense stand off and good old fashion feel-good romance. Maxine by Sue fineman is another exceptional read. At $2.99 on Kindle it represents great value. Plus, Maxine is the first in another Sue Fineman series, the Donatelli Series. I can look forward to more twists of the same theme as we learn more about these characters, which makes for more great engaging entertainment.

5.0 out of 5 stars Nice character evolution April 16, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I loved the story however at first I was afraid the heroine was going to be a timid mouse. So glad the author had both characters grow and evolve into strong people. Looking forward to the rest of the series.

More About the Author

I'm a grumpy old lady who lives with an even grumpier old man in a small town in Washington state. I have three grown children, all smarter and more successful than their mother, and one adorable grandson. My favorite kid!

I write mostly romantic suspense, women's fiction, and light paranormal romance novels. Although my plots get kind of involved and sometimes twisted at the end, I don't plot my books out before I start writing. I create characters, throw them into a situation, and let them lead the way. I'd like to think my characters are unique, yet familiar, people you'd like to get to know. People you can root for. People you'll remember after you finish reading the book.

I hope you enjoy reading my books. Please feel free to leave a comment or review.
