A book well worth the read!, November 18, 2009
Maxine Harper's memoirs tell the true story of one woman severely physically challenged since birth, whose belief and perseverance, aided by many including her family and friends, found the truth that "With God all things are possible" to be exactly so.
Maxine, who was born with severe CP, restricting her ability to do many basic tasks that most take for granted, did not use this fact to keep her from pursuing her big, big dreams.
She was denied admittance to public school (pre-ADA) until a heaven sent administrator gave her a chance. Friends and family pushed her rolling typewriter table and wheelchair from class to class. She excelled and used one thing she did have in abundance, which was an active and bright (some would say brilliant) mind.
Her academic career could be described as perfect.
Journey of Hope is a telling of many sub-stories where just the right person came at just the right time to aid in putting her further down the path that the Lord laid out for her. A path to the fulfillment of dreams that most would not believe possible for one so physically limited.
Dr. Maxine Harper is now an educator of those who would be educators to children with daunting challenges. Truly one of the best books I have read in years. She is now able to educate future teachers having been on both sides of the coin.
People who are newly physically challenged and just anyone who dreams big dreams will not be able to put this book down.
I would describe the book as inspiring, encouraging, passionate, faith-filled, humorous, appreciative, insightful, and well worth the read. You will love it.

REMARKABLE Journey BLESSES Reader, November 18, 2009
Maxine Harper's Journey of Hope is one of THE MOST REMARKABLE reads simply because it is a TRUE journey! Maxine's life inspires me every single day. Her faith...her life...puts everything in perspective. She has certainly caused me to re-examine my priorities and blessings! This is a book I recommend to EVERYone and should be required reading for every single teacher and school administrator. It is truly a book of hope for every parent of children with special needs as well as every parent. The Harper Family including Maxine, her incredible Mother, Father and Sister, niece, Sonny, grandparents and cousins, is a shining example of what a family should be~supportive, loving, sharing, caring.
I also heartily recommend her first book, Daffodils in the Snow!!!!! It blesses me every time I read the weekly devotional she wrote from her heart and depth of her faith. Her words in both books have helped me strengthen my faith and inspire me daily to persevere through any bump that comes my way!
Thank you, Maxine Harper! Your words bless my life daily!
