3.0 out of 5 stars Hulk Sects, March 1, 2009
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Maxipad Detention (Audio CD)
I once read an advice book for musicians trying to be "successful," and one tip they gave was to learn how to describe your music in a way that is simple and memorable. The example they gave of a simple and memorable description was "my band sounds like the incredible hulk have intercourse."

Well, I never thought I would actually come across a band that fits that description. However, this CD proves me wrong, as it clearly sounds like monsters procreating. This is due to a lot of juicy-sounding water samples and synthesizers layered over drums with an off-beat feel and pitched-down vocal bits.

This guy got booed at a noise fest in his home state of Florida a few months ago, but I still love this CD. It's kind of like an electronic Fantomas.

3.0 out of 5 stars Totally disfunctional, December 20, 2006

Otto fires up the cement mixer and trowels out the samples with the finesse of a jackhammer. Relentless--never comes up for air and consequently wears a bit thin before long. Farm implements crashing down several flights of stairs. Mixing cocktails with helicopter blades-- straight cacophony, no chaser. The perfect thing to irritate your neighbors, parents, or to stampede wild animals.

4.0 out of 5 stars Sick, glitchy, um, stuff..., August 6, 2006

Al-Ghaieru (Wisconsin, AKA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Maxipad Detention (Audio CD)
Not a bad little album. Quirky techno, mostly drum and bass stuff. Could have some appeal to Aphex Twin fans like myself. Other pros: well, Otto Von Schirach is not afraid to traffic in sickness/sick sounds such as porno samples, slurping/sloshing, and industrial music type noises, which only add to the chaos going on here. Apparently, Von Schirach submitted a 38 track demo to Mike Patton at Ipecac records, then Mike selected the ones he liked, and had Ipecac put this album out. Von Schirach has also worked with Skinny Puppy, which may explain why he's not afraid to put out a techno album sounding darker than most techno albums.
