The back of the pack and shoulder strap are very well padded and feel comfortable even when loaded up.

The bag itself is VERY well constructed with heavy nylon and double-stitching.

I purchased the Maxpedition Sitka S-Type to use as an Every Day Carry (EDC) bag. I was torn between the Sitka and the Kodiak (Kodiac is reported to be the same bag, just bigger)as I'm approx. 6'1'' 255lbs and thought the smaller bag might look weird across my back. I'm glad I chose the Sitka. The bag holds it all with room to spare. I usually carry my iPad, Kindle, first aid kit, vitamins, flashlight, various electronics/chargers, water, food, and sometimes my CCW Weapon. The back of the pack and shoulder strap are very well padded and feel comfortable even when loaded up. You do need to be cautious about overloading the bag, since all the weight is on one shoulder, carrying too much can cause back strain and fatigue. One of the best things about this bag is its ability to swing around to your chest for easy access to the pockets/pouches. You can even use the bag as a working surface for writing/swapping batteries or memory cards/ect...One of the features that is often overlooked is the security strap for your zipper tabs. This is a great feature. When all of the zipper tabs are moved to the top of the bag(when its on your chest) there is a loop that you can run the zipper tabs through and tighten. Its not really lockable, but I imagine I would feel/hear if someone were trying to undo it in an effort to remove something from the pack while I was wearing it. The only negative I have for this bag would be that the pack seems to rest on my lower back, which means the key holder/stability strap buckle on the shoulder strap is too far up on my shoulder to really use. If I want to use the stability strap or key holder I have to really tighten down the strap and that makes it a bit more uncomfortable. That could just be b/c of my body shape though. Overall I'm very pleased with the Sitka and use it everyday.

I had never heard of Maxpedition until I started looking for BOBs and EDC bags. When it arrived I was extremely impressed with the craftsmanship that went into this bag. It is certainly high quality, and one should expect that at the price point for this bag. Being in the service, predicted material endurance is one thing that I look for in equipment of this type. This bag is pretty big, I don't know that I would want to wear it every day, or even have enough stuff to use it as an EDC bag. If I had a concealed carry license, this might be a better fit for me. For my use, it would be better for a day at the zoo or hiking maybe. I bought the S-type, being a lefty, but found that I would prefer to have the bag strapped over my left shoulder instead of the right. Just something to think about before you purchase. There are many good video reviews of this bag on Youtube; make sure you check them out if you are unfamiliar with the Gearslinger line.

It turned out to be what I was looking for, a little bigger
than I expected but due to the extra space I can carry a lot
more than I thought I could. Material is awesome and the pockets
and partitions come in very handy. Highly recommended as an edc
or light pack for other activities.

**Update 1/14**
After a few years of ownership, this bag still looks brand new. I've
used it as my go bag for quite sometime and it's held up well and
has harbored many a things. I don't use it as my go bag anymore
because I think that's a job for a 2 strap pack. Hiking or a long trek
becomes quite uncomfortable for a sling pack since it rests all its
weight to one side. Even with the strap that crosses the slug back
to the center I've found that I still need to adjust the carry. Great
bag though, uses for it though in my eyes is a light weight day
pack.

I use this when biking or flying to carry anything I might want to have on me. I carry it to work everyday with books and lunch in it. I wouldn't use it for hiking as it is a little small for that. Plenty of places to tuck things in to in order to stay organized.

Maxpedition has made another good product for carrying your gear.

I spent a weekend on foot through downtown Chicago with this carrying everything, and it was always secure and comfortable to wear.

I found I tended to wear regular book bags off one shoulder anyway, so the Sitka's one-shoulder design was made for me. It takes a little practice getting used to throwing it on and taking it off, but after a while it becomes easy. And the ability to quickly get into the bag without taking it off makes this design very handy.

All the PALS webbing makes the bag very versatile because you can add other pouches as needed. It can also accommodate a Camelbak hydration system. The bag itself is VERY well constructed with heavy nylon and double-stitching.

If you're interested in a detailed run through all its features, I recommend watching Stefan Schmalhaus' review on YouTube. He's very thorough, and all his reviews are very well produced.

A few nits: I wish there was a strap or some better means to secure the water bottle. A typical bottle with smooth sides tends to slide out if you start running or the bag's tipped over. Also, this is a very "busy" design: there are lots of straps and cords for closing and securing the various compartments. I ended up taking several off because they made it complicated getting into the bag, they were snag risks, and they didn't really secure the gear any better.

But these are minor nits. For a day-bag, I don't know anything better.
