Excellent Bag, made for Giants!, June 20, 2010
This review is from: Maxpedition Monsoon Gearslinger (Sports)
I love this bag - tough construction, low-profile, comfortable, and intuitive pocket design. I stand 6' tall and 175lbs, a fairly average male size I would say. This bag is definitely designed for larger people or for people wearing protective vests, etc. The bag doesn't sit quite high enough on my back with the straps fully tightened. A few passes with an industrial sewing machine solved the problem but that might not work for everyone.
If you're a smaller than average person you may have trouble getting the best fit with this bag. If the bag fits, however, you will love it. I took a risk with the price but I already think it was worth it.

Excellent product, no regrets., September 20, 2010
This review is from: Maxpedition Monsoon Gearslinger (Sports)
I have been using this pack for about 9 months now, first for University and then over the summer for some outdoor adventures. It performs great for both, and still looks brand new. It fits some books and my macbook along with lunch and mac power supply/mouse for school, as well as a host of smaller everyday items. No issues there. Put the cell phone holder on the strap also. It's right there, and I can feel the vibration with the ringer off.
As for outdoor use, the Monsoon was ideal for a day trip to summit a mountain. Also hiking, mountain biking and just trekking around. The waist strap is invaluable for these activities. My camelback fit right inside, saving me hauling a Nalgene around. Hook and loop attachments route the camelback hose right to where you want it. Plus I got several interested compliments on the thing's appearance.
The concealed carry option is also a bonus. My Sig rides in it's pocket without issue. I got the holster and mag holders and they velcro right in there. The gun does not create an annoying lump that can be felt pressing into your back at all.
In all a great purchase. I have since purchased 3 other Maxpedition bags for rangebag use, computer use and camera use.

Cool at School, October 3, 2008
This Maxpedition back is not for those looking to carry alot, just what you need.
What I was looking for was a sling backpack. I was tired of having a regular pack that could slip off my shoulders or bounce off my shoulders if I sat or ran. (college student) Also the look of regular bags are all boring.
The sling is cushioned which is great.
PROS:
cool
Cushioned sling
Place for a camel pack
Straps are strudy
Rough, tough, weatherized material
Cons:
1 compartment! Main one but can hold surprisingly more than i thought.
For example, I could hold a math textbook, 4 regular books, Season of Sopranos package, 1 notebook all comfortably.
You could use it as a gym bag with shoes and clothes but shoes take up a lot of volume. Its because of the triangular shape that takes up some room.
It was a tad smaller than I thought it would be but when you use it it feels right. So don't be surprised at the small package its boxed.
All in all I love a tough, non-girlie backpack (not like those weird messenger bags, only Jack Bauer or other people who need it for those professions should use it) that looks cool, even paramilitary, but doesn't scream it.I got the khaki so it doesn't look too military. (black may be best to avoid uber military look)
I saw this bag at other sites for $160.
