Bought this duffle bag for a trip to Costa Rica. I wanted something large but not as large as the sea bag I had in the Navy. This Maxpedition Doppelduffel is a nice medium size for say a two day trip anywhere.
In short the Maxpedition Doppelduffle is easily carried on you back (has two shoulder straps), has good capacity (3200 cu. in), there are many handles for ease of handling/grabbing, is heavy duty (you can check it at the Airport), and looks great. It cost more than other similar duffle bags but thats because of its higher quality and ruggedness.

This is my first Maxpedition product and I am very impressed by the quality and design of this bag.
The bag is made of very strong water resistant fabric. The snaps and buckles are thick high density plastic.
The layout of the bag shows someone really cared about what they where designing for example the inside of the bag
is nylon lined and is able to be sub-dived in to three sections. The bag can be carried in three different configurations.
These include, by hand or over the shoulder with removable strap and or on the back with the hideaway backpack straps. If you need storage for
your water bladder there is pocket designed for it also. So if you are thinking about this product and like its looks but not its price, be assured
your getting a bag that will be with you for a long time and will fulfill a variety of your needs. Maxpedition has done such a good job with this bag that I'll be considering them for other portable storage needs in the future.

After much extensive research this was the #1 bag I found and first on my 52nd birthday list! If you know Maxpedition, you know there quality is first class all the way. So when I got my first Doppleduffle, I was surprised to see the backpack straps were stitched a bit off, making the zipper nearly impossible to open & close. I returned it only to receive another in an open box from UPS, but ended up keeping it. Since this review is on the bag, I'll leave out the customer service nightmares I encountered, including more bags that were shippe and billed to my credit card.
If you are looking for a very rugged, well made, bag for travel or BOB Bag, I don't think you'll find a better bag. It's extremely flexible with functional options and just the right size at 3200 cubic inches of space. Packed properly you can hold all the survival gear you need for 3-5 days and for just traveling, up to 10 days or more depending on how you pack. As for FAA size guidelines, its technically just a little to large, however, if cinched down, most airlines will allow it as carry on. I got mine in the monochrome, all Foliage Green Color and it looks great. Plenty of pals webbing for attaching extra bags & pouches or whatever you like. I compared it to the Fliegerduffle, which is basically the same bag just scaled down a bit. The little bit extra space and configuration of the the pocket space and dividers is worth the extra few inches in size IMO. In closing, it has YKK heavy duty zippers and Teflon coated nylon making it very water resistant. Stitching is strong and precise and it allows you to use it as a backpack, or a single shoulder strap, or grab handles at both ends, and lastly, carry it like a normal bag using its comfortable & thick neoprene handle.

Covering a territory of four states by car, with occasional flights to other locations, I needed a good, tough bag. I don't like hard-side traditional luggage, and I'd been making do for years with soft gym bags and cheaper duffel bags. When the zipper gave up on my last one, I saw need to upgrade. I have some Maxpedition gear I bought for other purposes, so I looked into this bag, and gave in and bought one.

Construction: It's hard to fault any point of material or assembly. It is put together with substantial materials, well-assembled.

Layout: You can do your own. Two internal dividers zip into place to make three compartments, or you can drop one or both out of place. I use both, separating components into my idea of functional groups. Two internal zippered mesh pockets allow further segregated storage of smaller items, and three zippered outside compartments allow one to carry other items with easy access.

MOLLE straps on the outside of the bag allow you to further accessorize for your specific needs.

The handles are strong and comfortable and a choice of a single shoulder strap or two straps for backpack style carry further round out the utility.

I've had no difficulties using this bag for four-day forays, and I think it would do a week with no difficulty.

Bottom line? Good buy. And I'd buy it again.

This is important information for those considering the DoppelDuffel and the Fliegerduffel bags. I own the latter, but not the former, however, I have studied both, online and in person, and they are similar, and I feel capable of giving some advice to those shopping for either of these two bags. If you only want a review from someone that owns the Doppelduffel exclusively, you can stop reading right now.

I like this bag. I don't love it. I wanted to make some points about it, rather than re-iterate what others have said in other reviews. There are some negatives that seem never to be mentioned, but please note that there are many positives that I agree with (e.g build quality, etc.); those have been covered well in other reviews and are not reiterated here. If you disagree with anything I write, please write your own review. And with that, let's roll:

This bag has Molle on the top (the single neo handle top side) to attach bags. I have attached two bags (5.11 6.6 padded bags). The Fleigerduff and Doppelduffel bags are very dependent on the top opening and shutting; unlike a messenger bag, you cannot easily get in it without completely flipping open the top of the bag (like a suitcase). Well, heavy items on the top Molle will make this bag very hard to flip open. The top will bang down on anything behind it (the wall, the table, etc.) with the weight of anything attached to the Molles. In fact, even if you put something heavy in the mesh pockets inside the bag, bang, it will hit when you flip this open. I considered buying the Doppelduffel as I like larger bags, and that holds even more in the mesh pockets in the top, plus the middle top compartment--but do I want even more on there? No. You will not want to keep fragile things (e.g. camera, cell phone, etc.
