Product Description

This bag is very sturdy and perfect for my constant heavy loads that consist of tools and reference books. Now, just about everything fits in one bag, and the shoulder strap is comfortable! It wasn't cheap, but is was definitely worth the money for a bag that can hold so much and will likely last so long. Cheers.

They can carry a huge amount of stuff in the Gleneagle compared to the Larkspur.

When you buy them though, realize that this will be the last bag you will have to buy... tough, durable, really almost indestructible.

Base stuck out a bit, but the top zipper let me open it up and still close the bag.

In the two outer pockets (which have Velcro flaps that can be put into the pocket if you don;t want to hear that Velcro ripping sound every time you want something: just tuck it in to the inside Velcro). Those two outer pouches alone. It's like having two full-grown kangaroos in there. lol!

In the inner flap pocket (the one built into the large flap itself), I have: my Apple Bluetooth wireless keyboard (fits easy-peasy, with plenty of room to spare), a full sized mouse, a mousepad, a wrist ergo support pad (folded in half), and sometimes a map or other flat things. I even have space for other cables and cords.

If you were walking any distance, though, you'd better get a backpack (like the excellent 5.11 backpacks--the 24 and the 70 and 5.11 Rush 24 Back Pack). I walk less than 1/4 mile with my messenger bag, and it's fine, even with that much textbook weight. But, any more and it'd hurt my neck/shoulder, at least if it had all this stuff in it. I love my Gleneagle!

I'm glad it has an open design for library and study EDC. Yes, you'll need a laptop neo sleeve since it has no dedicated laptop inner padded insert, but as you can read from other reviews; I decided against the bags with the built in padded laptop area as they occupy too much inside real estate, example is the 5.11 messenger bag. I just use my favorite neoprene laptop sleeve. I also place an inflatable chair pad like this one Therm-a-Rest Lite Seat in the bottom of the bag flat (uninflated or slightly inflated) all the time, and it gives some "bumper" to what it otherwise an unpadded bottom. A good idea, and you can use it for a pad when your library chair is hard.

This bag is BIG! I have the Maxpedition Larkspur also, and wasn't sure how much bigger this would be... thought it would be a slight difference, and on paper it is, but the volume it can carry is far more than implied by the numbers on the screen. The large external pockets are MUCH larger and deeper in this model. They can carry a huge amount of stuff in the Gleneagle compared to the Larkspur. The internal size difference in the main compartments is noticeable as well, but not to the same degree as those huge outside pockets.

The material it is made from is very stiff when first used, but will soften a bit with use. After awhile I washed mine to soften it up a bit more as well... I don't believe this is recommended by the manufacturer, but I have had no repercussions.

If you are a small framed person, this bag may be a bit too big for you to comfortably tote around. Look to the Larkspur instead. But if you are a big guy and want to carry as much as you can in 1 messenger bag, have no fear, this is the bag for you. I easily pack 3 days worth of clothes and stuff into it for weekend trips.

This was my latest addition to my Maxpedition line up. The messenger bag is BIG, but if big is what you need, it fits the bill. I own over a dozen Maxpedition bags and products. They are the best I have found.

When you buy them though, realize that this will be the last bag you will have to buy... tough, durable, really almost indestructible. They have extras (pockets, mesh, etc.) that the others fail to think of.

It's about as big a bag as you could have and still have it be manageable to carry around daily. Large enough where I could stick a 21 inch monitor in it to transport. Base stuck out a bit, but the top zipper let me open it up and still close the bag. I like it quite a bit, imagine it will last longer than I do.

People weren't kidding when they say it's HUGE!, love this bag, the construction is good (tough) stitching is 1st rate. I use it daily as a work bag (almost a month now) and there's no signs of wear so far. great bag to carry almost everything you need.

Just one issue though, is those two small "baton" pockets on the side, not thoroughly thought out if you ask me. I couldn't fit anything i had into it, yet.

other than that, if you're looking for a great "huge" bag to lug around stuff, like airsoft and other gears get this one!
