The smallest Versipack: Big on features and quality, January 8, 2008
A favorite of law enforcement, military and other outdoor 'tactical' types, this small wonder makes a great companion. I use mine for hiking, mountaineering and night-time dog walks, and it allows me to carry all that I need, without having to take a backpack or god forbid...a fannypack!
I can fit a large hunting knife in the zippered compartment (or a hefty multi-tool Leatherman), a large can of pepper spray and a medium flashlight on the sides, wallet, car keys and a large-ish digital point-and-shoot camera in the main compartment. (You could substitute the camera for a firearm, as it fits my cop roommate's Glock 17 + clip very well.) Alternatively, a large GPS unit and an MP3 player would also fit.
I wear the pack strap across my chest, slinger/bandolier-style, and the pack sits on my hip or lower back quite comfortably. You can also use the extra strap to secure the rig to your leg, although it makes one look like a SWAT/Spec Ops wannabe. One tip: I suggest you also purchase the strap shoulder pad offered as an accesory at the Maxpedition website.

Great for quick trips and needs for the day, August 20, 2008
This bag is used for my mini-go bag for waist carry on my good leg. I can stuff a folding crutch, a linux live CD in a case, and a decent sized paperback in the main section with a pocket knife, multi-tool, wipes, mp3 player, cell phone, and insect repellent in the side pouches. If I remove the crutches then a loaded Glock 36 with spare magazine can easily fit in the main section as well.

Lovin it, May 12, 2009
Nice big bag, carries my knife, flashlight, all of my gear, cellphone, keys, notepad, pens. Cinches down, leg strap keeps the thing from bouncing around when you need to run or jump. Not easy to roll over or onto, since it does stick out, and especially when you've got consumer electronics in it, but it's you're probably not supposed to roll your body weight onto your PDA or iPhone.
I'm a 32 waist, so I was a little slim for the waist strap, but add a pair of D-rings, and I was able to cinch it down to my waist size. I'm using it for school in this one setting where I'm supposed to carry all of my gear and I'm not allowed to bring a backpack, since there's no where to set it down. Because of the uniform requirements, we don't have any pockets and we're only allowed to carry whatever we can around our waists on fanny packs. I found the Wal-mart packs lacking, so after some research I found the Thermite pack and wasn't disappointed. The side straps for magazines are good for a folding knife and a flashlight, and are an easy grab and pull with the leg strap on (you can keep your eyes up and looking while you grab for your light and knife). Teflon-coated, main pouch has added rain protection, and it's also great for carrying spare bike tools/inner tubes when I'm the bike or when family is borrowing the car.
Price is a little steep but it's worth the quality of construction. This bag will probably outlast the regular bags, so long as it isn't purposely beat up. Will buy again.
