This is a "universal" holster, after all, so it does the job good enough for most firearms, but not as good as a holster dedicated to one particular firearm.

3.0 out of 5 stars Adequate
The CCW Holster does an acceptable job of holding whatever you want secured within a velcro-equipped carrier. I use mine with a UTG Messenger Bag as well as with a 5.11 Tactical Vest. Although there are more expensive, and perhaps better, alternatives, the CCW Holster works well enough in everyday use. If you intend to jump out of aircraft or perform parkour expecting...

This is a "universal" holster, after all, so it does the job good enough for most firearms, but not as good as a holster dedicated to one particular firearm.

The material and quality of workmanship is very good, and the Velcro holds the holster in place tightly. I carry an XD-45 (5") in my Jumbo Versipack and it just barely fits. Because the Universal CCW holster doesn't have any active form of retention for the weapon, the snugness of my Jumbo's CCW pocket is what actually holds the firearm in place. Still, my XD remains in place and can be drawn easily, with practice. Being modular, the holster can be removed or repositioned to suit your needs, which is always nice.

For those wanting an even nicer (and more expensive) modular holster dedicated to a particular model of firearm, check out the Crossbreed Ohai.

5.0 out of 5 stars Secure hold for your CCW, December 14, 2008

I use this holster for my Maxpedition Fatboy Versipack to carry a Ruger P95 pistol. It works exactly as advertised. Very secure hold, and I mean some super heavy duty velcro on this thing. It's adjustable so you can mold the holster around the trigger area of your pistol. Attach it to your pack, and you're good to go. Take a look at the pics I posted.

4.0 out of 5 stars Works quite well, July 31, 2010

I tend to agree with the opinion that it seems a bit pricey for what you get, but that being said this Maxpedition holster accessory does do its job reasonably well. The hook portion sewn onto this holster does a solid job of attaching itself firmly to the field of loop sewn into the Jumbo Versipack's CCW compartment, and the quality of its material reinforcing and stitching is what I've come to expect from the company. Fact is, it even works great in my clone UTG Tactical Messenger Bag with its smaller strips of loop material.

It holds my H&K P30 and USP Compact securely, as well as my Sig P229 and Glock 19. It adjusts easily enough to even accommodate those times when I have my Streamlight laser/light combo attached to any one of these pistols, even the USP Compact with its added Picatinny rail adapter. I have little reason to doubt than any 'compact' (to my eyes, 'mid-sized' seems a more appropriate term) semi-auto will work fine with this holster accessory in any Jumbo Versipack.

4.0 out of 5 stars Works Really Well, Even Though It Is Just Two Velcro Strips, February 14, 2011
This review is from: Maxpedition Universal CCW Holster (Black) (Sports)
I have three of these installed in different Maxpedition bags, and they work surprisingly well for retaining a loaded handgun in the concealed-carry pocket on all three bags, even at funny angles at which one would think that the gun would just fall out.

Some reviewers have expressed the opinion that a mere velcro-backed cross is not worth the asking price, imagining that they could make such a thing themselves for a dollar or two, but the truth is that they could not: the material is very heavy, the velcro is of very high quality, and the stitching is extensive and would require a substantial industrial sewing machine.

I put this holster in my UTG pack and it works fine. It holds my XD9 (4 inch frame) easily and snugly. Velcro is nice and stitching is well done.

This is a great product for those that want to CC in a bag.

This is a great product that I use in my sitka. It holds my G21, and I dont have to worry about it floating around my bag. It's adjustable and gives a good solid hold.

I bought this to use in my UTG Multi-functional Tactical Messenger Bag UTG Multi-functional Tactical Messenger Bag to hold either my Ruger P95 or my Bersa Thunder 40. Both are about the same size and the Universal CCW Holster is extremely effective holding either. The UTG Bag has two velcro strips in the concealed zipper compartment that hold the CCW holster securely with the pistol in place.
