Maxtor DiamondMax 10 300 GB is simply the fastest drive,

Just replaced my old HD (120 GB SATA DiamondMax 9) with this monster drive (300 GB) SATA Diamondmax 10 as my main OS drive. It is EXTREMELY fast; so fast that you can actually see the difference using Windows and bringing up applications. I never believed the hype but for the first time in my PC upgrade history, unlike the processor speeds nowaday, I actually see the vast improvement (85% faster) with this drive. Strongly recommend to use this drive as your main OS drive for the incredible speed. Who would have thought the HD speed can make this much improvement? I am just speechless about this drive. Go Maxtor.

Failed Basic Drive Test within 1 year of use,
This review is from: Maxtor L01S300 300 GB 7200RPM SATA Internal Hard Drive (Personal Computers)
MAXTOR 6L300S0 300GB Seagate diag. software showed that basic drive test FAILED even though data "Seemed OK". JPEG Pictures were a little degraded but no other Windows complaints.
Have had both Seagate and MAXTOR drives fail catastrophically and at the worst times. Actuator failures are common. Why do drives die so often and so soon? Backup, backup, backup or else. Don't know what is a truly reliable drive maker! Really looking for better drive quality than cheap. Always BACKUP BACKUP EVERY DAY. You never know. A 500gb drive and ext enclosure are less than $150. Failed Basic Drive Test within 1 year of use

Great Hard Drive,

This review is from: Maxtor L01S300 300 GB 7200RPM SATA Internal Hard Drive (Personal Computers)
I recently order this Maxtor hard drive from Amazon. To my surprise when I open the package it was a Sata II (3.0gb interface) hard drive. It was suppose to be a Sata I drive as stated in Amazon and even in its own box. I'm not complaining about this, but this brings some problems to the table. My motherboard primary Sata controller is the VIA 8237 and it doesn't support Sata II even when you limit the drive to 1.5gb interface. Luckily my motherboard had a secondary controller the Promise Fasttrak 378 it handled the drive with no problems. I guess you could get either a Sata I or II with this hard drive kit, something to have in mind.
Overall this drive is great, very quite and fast. 5 stars

Couldn't be better,

The Maxtor mounted in minutes on my Mac dual G5. It's very fast, handles video and games perfectly, and is almost silent. Better than Apple's main internal.

Disappointed Customer,
This review is from: Maxtor L01S300 300 GB 7200RPM SATA Internal Hard Drive (Personal Computers)
I originally purchased two of these drives and installed them in an Intel matrix raid array (raid 0 and raid 1)on a new home built system. After one of the drives went bad I replaced it and installed it using a raid 1 (mirror) arrangement. The new drive has gone bad and I'm replacing it with a third and final drive. The only good thing I can say is that the price has come down since the first purchase and one of the original drives is still working. I would not recommend this manufacturer for what I consider to be inferior workmanship in this particular product line.

I didn't expect to see a difference in speed when I upgraded from a 160GB Ultra ATA 8MB cache hard drive to this one, however there is a subtle improvement. I would definitely recommend this to anyone who needs a new hard drive.

Incorrect Product Received,

This review is from: Maxtor L01S300 300 GB 7200RPM SATA Internal Hard Drive (Personal Computers)
Ordered Maxtor 300 GB Sata-1 hard drive! Received Maxtor 300 GB Sata-2 hard drive. Very disturbed that your distributors can't send correct product as per order. The invoice included with the product shows the product was ordered as a Sata-1, 300 Gb Drive, But the actual drve is a Sata-2 drive. Not something difficult to see, just pure carelessness/poor quality on your part. You have lost my business as a customer. Can't afford wasted time returning bad/incorrect parts.

Poor hard drive,

I'm sorry to disagree with this reviewer who uses it with Powermac. I'm not sure how he uses the computer but I do A LOT of video editing on my PowerMac and it turned to be a one piece of crap HD. Initially I was hopping for great performance and it did while you do something simple. But the sustained transfer speed is very very very BAD. My old Seagate 80Gb drive did way better, was much quieter, not to mention it bears 5 years warranty versus 1 year for Maxtors. It can't handle 3 video tracks read simultaneously. I always regarded Maxtors as average drive manufacturer and had been mislead by it 16Mb buffer. Never ever I'll buy drive from them. Seagate is another league manufacturer.

No SATA Power Cable / Converter,
By
This review is from: Maxtor L01S300 300 GB 7200RPM SATA Internal Hard Drive (Personal Computers)
I agree with Gadget Guy when he says that Maxtor should supply the buyer with an internal SATA power cable along with the SATA Interface cable since this power connector IS NOT STANDARD AT ALL, therefore, I will give Maxtor 3 stars for this big mistake.
Also, 1 star for J & R and AMAZON.COM for not MAKING CLEAR in the drive specs that THIS DRIVE WORKS WITH A SATA POWER CABLE AND NOT THE STANDARD 4-PIN LEGACY POWER CABLE. So beware people, this drive doesn't work with the standard power supply connector but a SATA one so you must buy a converter before purchasing this drive. Overall, 2 stars. I'll make a new review when i can make the drive work. Right now, i am pissed off because i was looking forward to replace my current drive and reinstall Windows XP thsi weekend but now i will have to wait until i have the converter. Best Regards, - Paul |
