Let there be light - - - - * * * *,

There's not a lot to say about a couple night lights. . .I have two interior bathrooms without windows or any other ambient light source, and wanted a night light bright enough to walk into either one of these "black holes" without switching on the light. The product description states "the Maxxima MLN-50 is the brightest plug-in Night Light available," and I'm here to say IT IS. One bathroom is just feet from my bed, and while there's not enough light to interfere with sleeping, there's plenty to navigate it at 2:00 am without waking my fellow snoozer with a flash of blazing light. Good value, great performance.

If you are tired of buying LED nightlights that don't put out any light, the Maxxima MLN-50's are the ones for you. I've bought 4 packs of the Maxxima MLN-50 NightLights so far and my only problem is I'm running out of outlets to put them in! I believe that the Maxxima is significantly brighter than a conventional 5-7 watt nightlight at a fraction of the power consumption. Works great on stairs and hallways or anyplace you want a light at night. The plug is not polarized so you can plug it in upside down if desired and has a built-in sensor to turn it off during the day. Works great for older people (or pets) that are getting a little night blind. I put one next to the dog door and water bowl. The Maxxima sell for about $5 each and the bulb should last for years. Not really that much more expensive than a conventional nightlight whose bulb only lasts about 2,000 hours or 6 months of use.

good night light,

This is the best night light I have ever found! I use it in the hallway and one of the baths, but I would not recommend it for a bedroom because it is pretty bright. The led's remain cool to the touch and they emit plenty of light to help you navigate dark hallways etc. I have no reliability data, since this is a new purchase.

Super Bright, but bit to large,

This five LED light is clearly the brightest night light I have found. I love it, but it is just slightly too wide and too tall to comfortable work in a US Standard 120V double receptacle. It extends close to the second receptacle plug in hole so that only a narrow plug can be used in the second part of the receptacle. Likewise, on a four gang receptacle, this light is a bit too wide and can interfere with an adjacent receptacle hole. In one location, I wanted to put two of these night lights in one double receptacle, one pointing up and one pointing down. The lights are so large, they hit each other and prevent me from using two in one double receptacle. Again, they are wonderfully bright and are fully automated. I do like these night lights very much, except for their being a bit to large.

Very bright at first, but are dim after only 8 months, too dim after 1 year,

We put one of these at the bottom of our staircase and the other on the landing half-way up. Now, the staircase is very well illuminated at night. The light looks white to me, not blue. The sensors are good enough, but would be better of they turned the lamps off with somewhat less ambient lighting. Other LED's have grown dimmer over a 2-3 year period, so I don't know how long these will remain bright enough, but if they last five years, that'll be good enough. UPDATE: bought these Oct. 10, 2010 and wrote the original review a few days later. Today is May 31, 2011, about 8 months later, and these lights are pretty dim. They probably are on 8-14 hours a day, depending on the season and other artificial lighting. Like other LED's, they became much less bright fairly quickly. I suspect we will have to replace them within a year of original purchase, and am thinking of going back to ante-diluvean 4-watt incandescent night lights. They also last about a year, but only cost $1 and stay bright until they fail. FINAL UPDATE: October 27, 2011, one year after purchase. The lights now are too dim to be useful, so we are switching back to 4-watt incandescents. Pity.

Light output after 3-6 months is horrible,

They're great when they're new but after 3-6 months the light output is very low (less than 50%) and bluish/purple.

The MLN-50s are great. I've had them for a few hours, so I can't speak to the issues other reviewers mentioned regarding decreased brightness after a long time, although that is a well-known issues with LEDs (they will drop to ~70% of their original brightness as they get very old), but they are bright right now. They give off a good, true white color.. not too blue and not too gray like some others. What I think I like about them most is the photosensor is very sensitive and the lights fade so, so smoothly. No flicker whatsoever and they turn completely off when they should. Would definitely recommend these as bathroom night lights or whatever else you might want to use them for!

If you are looking for a night light that does the job, this is it. The light sensor turns the product on and off for you. There is just enough light to keep you from stumbling in the dark and the light emitting diodes use very little electricity. Very happy with this product!

Bright White Light,

These pretty much do what they say they do. The light is a bright white light and illuminates a hallway very well - for some maybe too well. I use 2 of these in my garage (one on each end) and it provides enough light to walk around and not trip on anything. The sensors work well, turning on light gradually as it gets dark.

Works well, very bright,

I bought these to put in the garage and kitchen. So far they work great. This light is much brighter than my other night lights. It is almost as bright as some flashlights. If you want a soft dim light this is not the light for you. It would be too bright for some situations. So far very happy. I cant speak for its very cold whether or long term performance but out of the box it works as advertised. |
