Fairly good at what it does.,

I bought this to illuminate dark areas on my stairs which have no electrical outlet nearby for safe passage at night. The LED light is certainly bright enough to illuminate the stairs at night for safe passage. in fact my lovely wife complains it's TOO bright. It will last far longer than a fluorescent or incandescent bulb, and will give more illumination bang for the battery-life buck than either of those. So LED is a good choice for this application. The range is around 10 feet, which is minimally acceptable for my purposes, but certainly good for a closet. Two things that are less than ideal for my purposes: The motion detector cannot "see" motion that is above the plane of the sensor. So you can't put it on the landing below and expect it to illuminate the stairs when you descend from above. The light sensor is not sensitive enough, so that the little bugger still illuminates during the day despite regular houselights being on. Not a problem, but rather wasteful. It would also be nice if the motion sensor could be rotated to point away from the light, but that's asking too much for such a reasonably priced item. All in all, if you need to intermittently spot-illuminate an area without an outlet, this will do the trick.

Maxxima Portable Sensor Light - Does what it Says!,

This review is from: Maxxima MLS-01 Occupancy Sensor LED Light (Misc.)
I bought two of these lights and are delighted with them! They really do have the range they claim. One, I placed on my husband's dresser in the bedroom (am always tripping over his laundry basket when he forgets to put it away). And it immediately turns on as soon as I enter the doorway (approx. 13 feet away). The other is in the livingroom on the windowsill, so when he gets up in the middle of the night for a snack, it immediately turns on so he's not tripping over anything or walking into the corners of furniture. It is a bright light (but not overly so), and stays on long enough to pass through the room ...and if I want it to stay on, I can either flip a switch on it OR keep moving into it's sensor range. This is a GREAT item for dark areas of your home. AND it works just like it says it does. I highly recommend!

I don't know why people degrade a product rating when they simply did not order a product that suits their requirements. This light is not intended to light up a room, it's designed to let you see your way when no other light is available. What it's designed to do, it does superbly. The motion sensor is extremely sensitive and never fails; it doesn't waste batteries by turning on when other light is available and so the batteries last a long time. It can rest on a table top or hang on a wall with the provided screw. It does take four AA batteries but they last a long time. I have one beside my bed that allows me to get up during the night to make my way to the bathroom without the shock of turning on a bright light. I have another in the bathroom, same reason. I came back today to order three more, one for my study where I have to cross the room to turn on a light, another for my storage shed, another for my truck cab where the overhead has quit working. You can get cheaper but not with anywhere near the performance. As you can tell, I'm very pleased with this product and that seldom happens these days so I'm happy to take the time to write a rave review.

Problem: Dark staircase. No A/C outlets.Solution: Maxxima MLS-01 Occupancy Sensor LED Lights. We placed one at the bottom and one at the top of our staircase. The sensor knows day from night, thus saving battery life. The light is bright, but not over powering.

I sleep in the far end of an 18X10 bedroom and have to get up occasionally at night. The light switch is at the other end of the room and the lamp by my bed isn't convenient to find when waking up, so this light is the solution. It sits by the door on an etergere and turns on with a wave of my hand when I come through the door or by itself after I'm 5 feet or so inside. It is sensitive enough to know I got out of bed and makes actually a little too much light when I've been sleeping and my eyes don't want a bright light shining at me. Perhaps I can find a better location. In fact it's bright enough to the point that as I get out of my bed and walk to the door, I have to shade my eyes with my hand.I use NImH AA batteries (4) and they need charging at around 3 months. One problem with the setup of having it point at the bed from the far door is that it comes on by itself sometimes and wakes me up. Maybe I'm thrashing around in my sleep, I don't know. I might try putting it under my bed facing the door to see how that works, but all in all I'm very happy with this item. I've had it for about a year now.

PERFECT FOR TRAVEL,

I spend time in hotel rooms. They NEVER have a night light where it is needed. This light packs easily (take the batteries out first) and then sets up in your hotel room where YOU want light to come on. The Motion sensor is first rate. They sense from a good distance and seem to never fail. There are other lights Maxxima style has if you want the same type of light that will also plug into the wall ... check out the MLS-10. The MLS-10 plugs in with battery back-up as well. Great for kitchens and hallways. These are the kind of quality light the some authority suggested for older folks to prevent falls in the home.

I have this hanging in my hallway next to the door to the garage. It lights up the hallway when I walk it so I am not walking into a dark house. I like the fact that there are 3 settings; On - where it stays on; Off - where it stays off; and OS Sensor - which is the motion sensor. It is also bright enough to light up an area, but not to bright if it is near a bedroom, it is not to bright to wake anyone who might be sleeping. It is also useful for the bathroom or any dark room where you might search for light switches. Also since you can turn it on and leave it on, it would be good for closets that might not have a light.

the motion sensor works well and the product is well designed, I thought it was a plug-in type but it takes AA batteries.

I can't even tell you how many motion-sensor night lights that I tried in our master bathroom before finding one that works. Other lights I've tried either never turned off, didn't know that the light was on, never turned on or some combination. This one works 100% as advertised

Perfect light for a night-time light. The light covers the entire room but is not so bright that it over-powers your night-time eyes.
