3.0 out of 5 stars The May Fourth Movement
This book has very interesting points, owever lacks the importance of why this movement began in the first case. It has historical facts and roles it had in China, but lacks of how it ties in with Communism, one of the most important events that lead to communism in China

5.0 out of 5 stars Essential Reading - Formidable Scholarship, February 12, 2011
This review is from: The May 4th Movement: Intellectual Revolution in Modern China (Harvard East Asian) (Paperback)
This is formidable scholarship on the single most important event in China during the 20th century. With a plethora of exceedingly poor scholarship (if it can be called "scholarship" at all) concerning China these days, this volume is refreshingly objective and thoroughly researched. It is indispensable reading to understand the foundations of modern China. The book provides both the historical and intellectual parameters of the May 4th Movement. An understanding of the May 4th Movement is not only critical in terms of its historical significance for China in the 20th century, but also for what the future may hold for this great country.
