5.0 out of 5 stars May December Souls
This was one of the best books that I have read since starting our book club a year ago! This book was not only about a older woman and younger man which you quickly forgot about when you realize that Malik knew more about being a real man then men twice his age. This book dealt with issues that everyday people deal with. If you thought this book was only going to deal...

3.0 out of 5 stars Okay, Confusing...
Well, I do alot of reading, but, for some reason I just could not catch on to what this sister was trying to say. It appeared to me that she was more aware of the skin color and overall sex which does not make the man, at some time you need to come outside of the bedroom. I understand that she was an older woman, however, at times I thought she was much younger by her...

This was one of the best books that I have read since starting our book club a year ago! This book was not only about a older woman and younger man which you quickly forgot about when you realize that Malik knew more about being a real man then men twice his age. This book dealt with issues that everyday people deal with. If you thought this book was only going to deal with a May December relationship, you are in for a very pleasent surprise. This book dealt with everything from feeling like you were abandent by a parent to getting to know yourself better than someone else think they do. Also the issues that Dr. Singer talker about were deep and thought provoking. I would recommend this book to both men and women alike in or out of a relationship. You can learn the difference from being alone from being lonely. The characters are so realistic that I'm sure that we all can relate to one or all of them. I sometime ask myself, when do a player get tired of playing? I'm sure we all know somebody like that. This book can definitely be used for future reference. This book left me smiling long after I turned the last page. I could tell that Marissa Monteilh put her heart and soul into this book and it really showed. I look forward to reading her next book coming out in August. I wish her the best of luck in her future which I'm sure will be very bright!

5.0 out of 5 stars EXTRAORDINARY, November 28, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: May December Souls (Paperback)
Marissa Monteilh is one of the most eloquent, down to earth writers that I have experienced in years. Her creativity and ability to bring her characters to life were so extraordinary. The emotional rollercoaster of these experiences became so realistic throughout the chapters of May December Souls that I found myself actually recognizing remedy of healing that will allow me to purge from my own personal closet many of the negative memories of situations I've experienced in the past.

5.0 out of 5 stars HILARIOUS AND THOUGHTFUL, March 17, 2001

Not only was this book funny from start to finish. It also gave me a different outlook on older women younger men relationship. It seems to me sometime, in order to find happiness and compadability in a relationship we have to cross over to another generation, wether it be a much younger or older man.

For those of you who haven't read the book go get your copy. It's worth it. I think this writer has great potentials. I wish her the best and looking forward to her next book CHOCOLATE SHIP.

I truly appreciated that the book was an easy read. I never felt like it was stuck on one thing. The characters were great and my favorite was Malik. A story about forgivness and putting the past where it belongs. The story is written that you felt like you are apart of it. I cried for Mariah when she finally got the answer from her dad after his death. I would love to see a continuation of this story

4.0 out of 5 stars Older woman younger man, January 3, 2003
This review is from: May December Souls: A Novel (Paperback)
May December was a very interesting and enlighting story of
of an older woman and a yonger man relationship. It also dealt with a no win or going no were relationship.

I appauld Mariah for ending the relationship with Kadeem she had gone on to long with it.

I enjoyed the story but I felt that Malik was much to young for Mariah.

I know older woman and younger men romances are on the rise but the age difference was just a bit to much for me to be comfortable with.
I can understand 3 to 5years without a problem.
Malik was more closer to Mariah daughter age and she his closer to his father's age.

This story also felt real, perhaps maybe like a story about the author?

Just a guess for a story so well written that was belivable .
I would recommend it to other readers .

4.0 out of 5 stars Touched My Soul, December 5, 2002
This review is from: May December Souls: A Novel (Paperback)
All I can say is that author Tarissa touched my soul!! This book is a journey of accepting self as well as what life has to offer. Mariah is a savvy late 30-something woman looking for true love in all the wrong places until she meets the sweet-talking, bald-headed Malik Tolliver who's almost 20 years her junior. Before they can settle in blissful love, they must concur some past demons before planning the future. This story touches the heart because it's not just a love story but it's a human story as well. I await Tarissa's next novel.

5.0 out of 5 stars I could not put the book down!!, October 30, 2002

May December Souls is a must read...This book has an incredible rhythm that keeps you turning page after page. I love this novel for too many reasons to list...The "ladies first" theory is one that has helped my love life in many ways already. It gives a lovely illustration of roles in a relationship and reflects the strengths and weaknesses women encounter in our quest to be cherished. I recommend this book to men and women that enjoy the pleasure of sexy, sassy, and brilliant writing. Ladies, this book will have you talking for months! I am sure it will encourage you as it did me. I look forward to many more novels by Marissa Monteilh.

5.0 out of 5 stars Risking it all!, May 30, 2002

(REAL NAME)
This review is from: May December Souls (Paperback)
This was one of the best books I have read in a long time. Before I was previleged with the opportunity to sit in on a talk/booksigning, I knew that the relationship advice was accurate which made the story that much more believable. The characters were wonderful and had a great story as well as had depth. I must say that I was glued to the book from chapter one! There was humor as well as serious issues. When I think of the characters in the book I think of someone willing to risk it all for love, but not willing to compromise their beliefs. Great Work! I can't wait for the next book by Marissa. She is a very wonderful, talented writer.
