5.0 out of 5 stars Ab-Fab (Absolutely Fabulous), December 9, 2002
This review is from: May I Come In? (Audio CD)
I have been listening to Ms. Hart for years, and this CD is the "Bomb"! Some of the tunes should be considered for a movie sound track. Every time I hear Ever Blue, I visualize a love story involving intrigue, passion, and suspense. The entire collage and artistry of May I Come In is truly a labor of love. I highly recommend this CD and look forward to the next. This is a worthwhile investment.

5.0 out of 5 stars Newly arrived to Austin, January 5, 2000

This review is from: May I Come In? (Audio CD)
Wow! We just arrived in Austin and happened to catch a jam session at the Elephant Room. Pamela Hart happened to be in attendance and sang a couple of songs. Her renditions of those old favorites was so incredible we ran out and bought the CD. It doesn't disappoint! Pamela's rendition of 'What are you doing with the rest of your life' will blow you away. The clarity of the tone, the beauty of the sound, the capture of the mood is all just perfect. We're hoping Pamela records a new CD soon!

5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic!, March 28, 2011

I purchased this CD for "May I Come In", but when I heard "Ever Blue", I was absolutely floored. She does the song beautifully, but the lyrics to this song were "Off the Chain". What a beautiful song! I'm searching feverishly for the song writer of this song. Pamela seems to nourish every word...beautiful! She does a nice job with "What are you doing the rest of your life". This is music that should be in every 'jazz lovers' library.

This album has immediately moved to one of my favorites. There is nothing like coming home at the end of the day to these sweet tunes. I challenge anyone to prove that you can spend a few minutes listening to Pamela Hart without being totally relaxed. This is the best medicine - just what the doctor ordered. I love it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Upside of Music on Internet: Discovery of Pamela Hart, October 22, 2002
This review is from: May I Come In? (Audio CD)
While most people are bemoaning the internet and the supposed destruction of the music industry as a result, I would like to trumpet the upside of it. I discovered Pamela Hart by downloading 4 music clips of hers on Amazon Music Downloads (they are still here). I put them into my Windows Media 9 downloaded player. They sounded absolutely fantastic back to back at about 2 minutes apiece. Then I got the CD and it was even a better experience to listen to the full songs plus the other songs on the CD. She reminds me of Ella Fitzgerald in the clear, lilting lyrical style she employs, almost floating above the material and floating you along with it. Yet there is a touch of the smokey Julie London here too. These are jazz, R&B, and standards, my favorite musical genre. Hart is a local super nova songstress in Austin, Texas. It is unlikely I will be in Austin anytime soon and so it is unlikely I would have otherwise discovered Hart but for the internet. I think the internet is more of the claimed disaster for bloated musical international superstars than it is for emerging artists. At one time, staying put in your own town or state was certain death for an artist of any sort. With the advent of the internet, we consumers now have the power to discover those talents while they stay in their local venues. This means they needn't lose any of the local roots and influences which attracted us in the first place to their stylings. I think those of you who have been listening to Diana Krall and Stacey Kent might even be happier with the singing of Pamela Hart or at the very least, as happy. Give her a try.

Upon receiving the CD via snail mail, I have kept it on the carousel. Starting with "The Way Of Love" and ending with "The Masquerade Is Over" Each tune well orchestrated and the voice of Pamela is very good. I would love to hear more from Pamela.

Wow! The CD has a Salsa opening (That's The Way Of Love) that makes you want to hear more of it. Things slow down a bit with "Ever Blue". Pamela makes you think she is singing to you when she does "I Want you To Be My Man". All the nauances of an outstanding singer are shown when she sings "What Are You Doing The Rest Of Your Life", "Second Time Around", "The Masquerade Is Over" and the title tune "May I Come In". Rich Harney wrote three excellent tracks, Hart and Hughes callaborated on two tracks. This CD produced and arranged by James Polk is excellent. Yes Pamela you may come In.

5.0 out of 5 stars Thoroughly enjoyed every song on the CD., October 20, 1999
This review is from: May I Come In? (Audio CD)
Seeing her perform live is what made me go out and buy the CD. She is a true professional and it shows in the music on this CD. There are no throwaway tracks on this CD. You will want to listen to it from beginning to end, over and over. I'm looking forward to hearing from her again, soon.

5.0 out of 5 stars The first tract makes you hear more, May 24, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: May I Come In? (Audio CD)
You wonder why the world does not know about this talented singer. She displayes all the naunces of putting over a song in her interpretion of "What Are You Doing The Rest of Your Life". She has that uncanny abiity to make the listener feel like she is personally singing to them. The rest of the CD draws attention to fact that she has learned from the elder statesman of Jazz Music. This is evident when she sings "May I Come In, The Second Time Around, by the way this is unique in that it is done in 6/8 time, and the Masquerade Is Over. The rest of the songs are not as well know but she puts real life into them. The choice of musicians shows excellent taste. The arrangements and total production are excellent. There are a lot of original tunes on this CD which makes for attentive listening. I recommed that if you listen to this CD you will become a Pamela Hart fan.

5.0 out of 5 stars Pamela Hart is a first-class singer of good songs., May 20, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: May I Come In? (Audio CD)
When I moved to Austin Texas after 25 years overseas I knew it advertised itself as the live music capital of the world, but I didn't know the half of it. It's not just great roadhouse and Tex-Mex music, but everything else as well. I had never heard of Pamela Hart, but her singing and her CD are world class. Her backing on the album and the CD's production are classy in the best sense, by which I mean that nothing draws undue attention to itself, so that the songs and Hart herself can shine. I had never heard of most of the songs but they are well worth getting to know, not the usual stuff that sounds cobbled together by the producer and his friends; while Hart's taste in the songs is matched by her treatment of them: as a ballad singer she is an Ella Fitzgerald but with more heart and a bit more warm color in her voice. I particularly like the way she does the slowest ones: it is hard to swing at a slow tempo, but Pamela Hart is always in command. If you like classic jazz-oriented singing of good popular songs, grab this one.
