Eddie Can Sing To Me Anytime!,
By Betty Racine (Wilmington, DE) - See all my reviews
This review is from: May I Sing to You / As Long As There's Music (Audio CD)
I am reviewing this CD since I had purchased all of Eddie Fisher's recently re-released CD's. I had purchased As Long As There's Music many years ago on LP and played it to death. It is a shame that Eddie never got the recognition he truly deserved at the time but his personal life made headlines then instead of his talent.I can't think of anyone who could sing those Broadway songs the way Eddie could. And the album May I Sing to You, he sang songs made famous by other singers, but he made them his own. I do have my memories of seeing him perform in person and have his CD's to remind me of how his voice could bring back the thrill.

"1954 & 1958 songs that made the Billboard Charts ~ Eddie Fisher",
This review is from: May I Sing to You / As Long As There's Music (Audio CD)
Eddie Fisher who could belt out a song with the best of them...not bad for a kid born on August 10, 1928 from Philadelphia, PA...finally a collection of tunes from my favorite singer when I was growing up in the midwest...his talent was enormous and the songs where right from the heart... Collectables Records and RCA Victor presents "MAY I SING TO YOU" (1954) and "AS LONG AS THERE'S MUSIC" (1958), featuring the son of Russian Jewish immigrants who were so proud of their boy little Eddie Fisher
The young crooner Eddie Fisher was a protégé of the famous comedian Eddie Cantor (If You Knew Susie Like I Know Susie)...during the '50s Mr. Fisher was RCA Victor's top-selling pop vocalist along with Perry Como and Elvis Presley...Eddie's signature song was "Any Time" which always opened his 15 minute TV Show called "Coke Time" (1953) and was universally the spokesman for the soft drink "May I Sing To You", as Eddie salutes the great singers of our time...with sparkling arrangements by Hugo Winterhalter and His Orchestra...Eddie and Hugo worked together many times...listed in alphabetical order: APRIL SHOWERS (tribute to Al Jolson) BEGIN THE BEGUINE (tribute to Tony Martin) I'M JUST A VAGBOND LOVERS (tribute to Rudy Vallee) MAY I SING TO YOU (composed especially for Eddie in the way he likes it) NATURE BOY (tribute to Nat King Cole) NIGHT AND DAY (tribute to Frank Sinatra) WHERE THE BLUE OF THE NIGHT MEETS THE GOLD OF THE DAY (tribute to Bing Crosby) YOU CAL IT MADNESS BUT I CALL IT LOVE (tribute to Russ Columbo) Second part of the album is "As Long As There's Music", another outing with some of the best composers of the day: AS LONG AS THERE'S MUSIC (Sammy Cahn & Jule Styne) BEST THING FOR YOU,THE (Irving Berlin) CLOSE AS PAGES IN A BOOK (Dorothy Fields & Sigmund Romberg) I AM IN LOVE (Cole Porter) I WISH I WERE IN LOVE AGAIN (Rodgers & Hart) I'LL BUY YOU A STAR (from "A Tree Grows in Brooklyn") I'LL SEE YOU IN MY DREAMS (Noel Coward) IN LOVE IN VAIN (Jerome Kern & Leo Robin) THERE BUY FOR YOU GO I (from the musical "Bridgadoon") TIME ON MY HANDS (Adamson/Gordon/Youmans) YOU ARE TOO BEAUTIFUL (Rodgers & Hart) YOU'RE MY GIRL (Sammy Cahn & Jule Styne) Fisher's voice was clear and strong, with a little extra something that grabbed you when he hit those high notes...as he firmly established his name in lights and made the world take notice...had everyone of these selections on 45's, EP's and LP's, only those of us who truly loved his work with never forget him...hope this release gives you some insight of what a great entertainer he was. Total Time: 59:00 on 20 Tracks ~ Collectables Records 2836 ~ (4/16/2002)

One Great Entertainer,

This review is from: May I Sing to You / As Long As There's Music (Audio CD)
This album along with all the others you offer are first rate. Eddie Fisher was a talented entertainer with a voice that, in my opinion, can't be matched. He can turn out a love song and makes you believe every word.I want to thank Eddie for the enjoyment I am now having listening to him as I did as a teenager in the 50's. Recently it is the only voice on CD I have been listening to. It seems as if I have been overdosing on him, but his voice is infectious. I have purchased 10 his CD's and am looking forward to seeing more on this site. Anyone looking for a pure entertainer won't go wrong with this CD or any of the others that are available. As for his personal life, which always seems to come into play when someone reviews him, I say we all make mistakes and God Bless You Eddie.
